the loud booms from Ft. Bragg? It's been going on all afternoon, hope not all night too. The first one I heard today scared the begeezus outta me! Anyone know exactly what they are doing?
Yeah, I heard them all day and just heard another one about 15 minutes ago. They were really loud this time!
Sounds like they are getting closer! LOL I have been meaning to ask you, who is that with Ronald in your avatar?
hm...you know...sometimes it's not fort bragg. to explain...and i'm not making it up i promise. In case some of you are not from here and not familiar with the area (my family has been here since like 1850.) There's actually a fault line a little west of this area (and one of the coast, but it's not rellavent to this) and some of those booms and vibs are actually from the fault line. sounds creepy i know but it's not a very serious or large fault line, just produces a few tremors every once in a while.
I've always wondered about that, because Bragg is so far away, and these noises actually shake my house. Speaking of... it just happened again.
What is the family's last name? My hubbys family has been here for about that long too. Maybe I am to much of a busy body but I dont feel or hear what yall are talking about.
My sil that has lived here forever told me that's what it is, but I thought it's kinda far too! I live between McGee's Xrds and the town of Angier, so I might be closer than some of you, but I still think it's too far for it to be Ft. Bragg. LOL
Well actually when you say Ft. Bragg (it's not really the "base" they do their war games on). They have thousands of acres in Cumberland/Moore/Harnett county area that they practice on. I grew up about 5 mins. from some of their practice areas (out in the country in Harnett Co.) so it's really only about an hour away from the actual area (about 50 miles). Sound carries for a very long distance and it's speed is based on factors like humidity, temperature, etc.
But sometimes I'll hear/feel it late into the night. Like last night, I was up until a little after 11:30 and I could still hear it. :?
Girl, you should go to one of his concerts if you can. The man is like 45 years old but he has the most energetic stage show I've ever seen. Watch the video for "Get This Party Started" here http://www.tobymac.com/music_videos.aspx and you'll see what I mean!
He is 45? Wow I must be getting old cause he looks good. lol Him and my 2 yr old must get their energy from the same source, she acts just like that! LOL
Wow, i have missed out on the booms. Do they happen during the day? Next time you have to call me MP so i can run out of the office to hear it:-D
You won't have to step out of your office to hear them, trust me! I had the kids making noise, the tv on, the laundry going, and I still heard them loud and clear! LOL
Could it have been the rock quarry on Raleigh Road way down towards 301 & SJHS? I know they blast all the time and were running 24/7 at one time? We can hear trains sometimes when the wind & weather are just right. We live no where near any tracks and I still do not know if the sounds are from Clayton, S'field or F.O. - ~K
Incidentally for those interested, the State of NC just happened to build a Nulcear Power Plant on one of the fault lines. The Brunswick Nuclear Power Plant located near Southport. Craig
