I just started riding this past summer. I am starting training for a bike ride come summer the MS 150. Of course right now it is indoor training. Have you seen Colorado's weather lately?? haha. The snowboarding helps me with my leg strength and my cardiovascular. I live in a town that is very bike friendly. WE have a trail called the Mineral Belt Trail which is 11 miles. Now it's great because it is for bikes. It is for road bikes, there are several off road trails as well. Being that we are two miles above sea level it is quite a workout. There are several bike-a-thons that come through our town in the summer for this reason. The challenge. I find I am glad to be up here while I have decided to start my new hobbie as people are pretty bike friendly.
Most of us down here are friendly to bike riders. There are a few who have probably never rode a bike over a mile, so they have trouble understanding why some people like to be healthy and fit. I think most of the complaints come from people who exercise their fingers and not their bodies. Hard to type on the laptops while riding a bike! We love riding our bikes. Its a family event for us. LOVE IT!
Turtle... I actually just got into riding for the health of it. I am on my laptop all week and by the weekend the bike calls me in summer (along with hiking and rafting) and snowboarding in winter. When I lived there I didn't exercise. I sat on the bench watching the kids play ball, playing team mom, taking the kids everywhere. Maybe it's 39 and having kids 19 and 16. Maybe it's my surroundings. I just found it's a great release to hop on my bike.
well, this was some entertaining reading this morning. i'm a roadie, but i'm not gonna get involved in a war of words over who should or shouldn't be on the public roads. it will always be us (cyclists) against them (motorists) with the latter always thinking they are right. it's a no-win situation when you try to reason with someone about our rights on the road. guess i did get involved, but i just couldn't help it.
I voted for Bush. If they want to pick me up for being a cyberterrorist, they are more than welcome. I would enjoy the laughter in the courtroom as they tried to charge me. "Let us take the motorcycle. Large organized rides have many rules for safety, so do smaller group rides. Many of these safety rules are designed so the group is not an encumbrance to potentially dangerous aggressive drivers. Usually not a problem on back roads however on the highway most cruiser style motorcycles are geared poorly for some of the 80+ speeds we see these days on the interstate. So the group tends to choose a slow lane instead of the fast lane. Then again most group rides try to avoid the interstate, it just isn't that much fun on a bike." I'm with you on this one Ken. I hate to ride motorcycles on the freeway. Cars ride my rear, go 90+ whipping in and outta traffic, wind buffeting is terrible, etc. Give me a nice twisty,2-lane backroad anyday. Altho with some of the moron drivers on the backroads, its still taking your life in your hands. Special shout out to the guy in the Ford ranger with the tinted windows that tried to run me over Sunday. That was me giving you the "you're number one" sign ;p
I don't understand your displeasure. Are you upset that you were doing something within your legal right and someone felt otherwise. To use your way of putting it, perhaps you should consider yourself a target.
I do consider myself a target when I ride. I was in my legal right and he ran past a stopsign then had to slam on brakes way past the sign causing me to have to hit the brakes and head towards the center line. Typically I just kick the foo-foo out of the car to snap them to attention, but I was on a borrowed bike. This was one of many times I wish I had my oldest brother's ninja skill of spitting a loogie 30+ yards with pinpoint accuracy ;p
