There was a wreck at Cleveland Middle this morning. One of the parents was trying to turn left out of the school and pulled out in front of a pickup truck. I don't blame the parent though. Turning left out of CMS in the morning is almost impossible. If you're driving through a school zone fast enough to hit someone who pulls out in front of you, then you were going too fast. If you can't stop for something as big as a car, how in the world would you ever see a child? A few weeks ago when it was pouring rain and still completely dark, some moron in a white Toyota Camry came flying through there.

The guy this morning was driving a green Dodge that had written on its back windshield "Sexy Fur Pie Truck". What an IDIOT!

Maybe you saw me then. I was the only one that walked up to that van to stay with her kids. BTW, she was driving a silver mini type van.

I was in a red sweat shirt and gray sweat pants.

both of her airbags deployed and she had a knot the size of a baseball on her head. They kids were crying and scared. I couldnt believe no one was paying them any mind. they thought their mom was going to jail.

The little girl had to poop so bad and they wouldnt let her. I wanted to cry.

she would only let me take her to the ambulance. The kids were okay. They needed to be checked out anyway!

that guy was flying through there even though it was her fault. Her whole hood was under his truck. Isnt that a school zone? 35 mph.?

    They NEED A LIGHT THERE!!!

So who ever can, please lets try to fight for one. Who would I call? This wont be the last accident there if there isnt a light.

I hated pulling out there when my son was going to school there.

Good job T4T for caring. I would really hate to see my kids all upset if we got in an accident.

Thanks for the info kds. TH, I just felt the need to take care of them. Poor babies. The little girls name was Jennifer. She was so cute, and her brother was trying to be soooo strong.

Why don't they have a police officer or school staff person out there directing traffic during drop off time? I go to Four Oaks several times a week and there is always a police officer directing traffic (at least after school). The speed limit on that street is 20 mph all the time and it's not exactly a high traffic area. Why do they have an officer there but not on a high traffic road like that near Cleveland Middle?

It sounds like they really do need a light there. I wonder why things like that aren't automatically done when they build schools? But look how long it took to get one put up at West Johnston. They probably don't have a police officer out there because that area would be served by the Sheriff's department and they probably don't have enough coverage to be able to do that every day. Look at all the schools in JoCo that are not within city limits that they would have to do that for, if they did it for one. Johnston County is a large county to be served by the few deputies that we have working at one time. That's just a guess though, I don't know for sure. It looks like the county, or state, or whoever would have made a light a priority for this area. I second the recommendation to contact Rep. Langdon. When we were trying to get them to put a light at 50 by Don Lee's, he's the ONLY one who acted like he gave a darn about our concerns.

Wouldnt a caution light or stop light be more economic rather then send out an officer?

    I could be wrong?

Sorry, there was another accident this morning at Riverwood. A child was hit by a car and we saw the Clayton Police tear out of down town heading that way. Had the thread mixed up.

Have not heard. Called there to make sure it wasnt my son, which it wasnt, but they would not tell who the child was.

Also, I just spoke to someone at the NCDOT. Here is the person to contact to request a traffic light. They said they would like the request in writing to show that you are serious and to have a documented record that you made a request.

Andy Brown - Division Traffic Engineer
    (252) 237-6164
    ahbrown@dot.state.nc.us

    Highway Division 4
    PO Box 3165
    Wilson, 27895

Cleveland Middle School's address where the traffic light needs to be is:
    2323 Cornwallis Rd
    Garner, NC 27529

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Lets start squeaking!

It was a little girl. Her scarf got caught in the car door and the parent ran over her foot.

Clayton does patrol there.(Riverwood) I had a bump up in the parking lot there before and we had to wait for the Clayton cop.

Right! The more people they hear from, the better. I would encourage everyone who has a child in that school to contact both Rep. Langdon and the DOT. Don't just sit back and expect someone else to do it; there's strength in numbers.
