    Dear Webmaster -
Please consider banning ads that SELL dogs on your site.
People who sell dogs are usually back yard "breeders". These dogs are kept in deplorable conditions and are often sick and kept like caged animals.
Craigslist and WRAL have both Banned Selling of Dogs on their lists. Please look into "PuppyMills" and "BackYard Breeders" and do the right thing, BAN all sales of Dogs.
Right now, there are PitBulls for sale.
The chances that these PitBulls will be going to "loving homes" is quite rare.
Also, the person selling the PitBulls is not the type of person that is going to screen people to make sure they go to loving homes. Chances are, these Pits will be for breeding or fighting.
There are many beautiful purebred and mixed dogs waiting for homes at local animal shelters and SPCA.
    Thank you for your consideration

"To each his own" If this person does not want to purchase a pet on this site, they do not have to. I feel every pet deserves a good home. Most of the Pit Bulls for sale on here come registered and from respectable breeders. I come here to look for pets and don't see what the problem is. I've been to the SPCA and other places that have pets and you're taking a chance on these pets as well. They are coming from "backyard" breeders also. Craigslist and WRAL DO HAVE pets on their sites (314 pets on WRAL right now). I check them daily because I'm looking a new pet. That's what classifieds are for.. to sell items. Some people can be trusted and some can't. That's the chance everyone on this site takes when they go to buy anything from the classifieds. That's from toys, computers, and even pets. So Webmaster.......if it isn't broke.....why mess with it? GOOD LUCK!

At Christmas my grandchildren's dog passed away. At the last minute, my son was trying desperately to find a puppy for them - they were heartbroken. We called about the shelters but the process was unreal (yeah i know it is necessary in some cases) but if it hadn't been for an ad in the 4042 classifieds those children would not have a new member of their family just in time for Christmas and i wouldn't have my new baby girl and trust me, they are both in loving homes and came from a very caring and loving breeder. As in all else, use your common sense when looking for a new member of your family.

Banning the ads just insinuates that people are not intelligent enough to make the right decision themselves - jmho.

Our most recent dog came from an ad. The prior two came from shelter or organization adoptions. We had less cost for the last than a similar dog adoption and less problems.

At least the people are trying to find homes instead of just taking the animal(s) to the shelter.

Believe me, I understand about "backyard breeders" and it really burns my ***! I wish they would all get put out of business FOR GOOD! I wish that people had more sense, but they don't.

I'm done before I get banned!

Let's see, So far out of 21 peps only 1 said ban it. That's most likely the one who posted the complaint ad.

First of let me say the ad is not mine!!

But I do agree with it to a point. I would love to END back yard breeding. So selling animals on any classifieds burns me big time.... however finding a new home for accidental pups is another story. (like how Ready and Kaci found a dog who was preggo's etc...) But how do you differentiate between the two? No selling, only re-homing? But then they charge a fee to insure it gets a good home and then the fee slowly ends up to be $200 for the accidental birth from their registered chihuahuas.... It is a fine line...

If taking back yard breeders off Classifieds helps slow them down or takes some of their revenue, than I say go for it.

I read in my Dog fancy mag that California has adopted a law requiring breeders to be licensed. Its a start!

Oh, so only those breeders who can afford the campaign contributions can operate, right?

The animals, themselves, may be in danger.
Licensed by the USDA, Class B dealers can buy animals, including dogs, from “random sources” (meaning animals not bred or raised on the dealers’ property) and sell them to animal research facilities... A Class B dealer’s “random sources” are indeed that. Dealers regularly buy dogs from auctions, flea markets, or "pounds." They also buy them from “bunchers,” another group of people who collect animals from random sources... Class B dealers and bunchers have been known to snag lost, stray, or “free to a good home” pets. There have been cases of pets being stolen from their owners’ backyards...
Above excerpted from a Humane Society article. And here is another link about (long!) pending legislation.

This is to the person who originally posed the question, which I just saw in the classifieds, along with your next ad, which is incredibly rude in my opinion. What good would it really do to have this website shut down classified ads of dogs for sale? What's next? Birds? Fish? Hamsters? I mean really, where does it end? Why let one rotten apple spoil the whole barrel? There are always going to be backyard breeders unless you want to start regulating who can even own a pet, big brother is watching enough as it is! In a perfect world, they wouldn't exist, but in this case, I think you are barking up the wrong tree.

And I'm not a Johnston Co born & bred local, but would be proud if I was, there are a whole lot of good, honest, hard working people in this county!

Now, do you have the cajones to actually post in the discussion or are you going to keep hiding in the classifieds?

OK, getting off my soap box now.............................................
