Hey Folks. Well i have decided that i want to seriously look into becoming or learning to become a drummer. I always catch myself admiring drummers in bands and have decided to put in as much work as possible to learn. so i guess im looking for some startup advice... like where i can get a good, cheap drumset, lessons, etc. Thanks
Try some places in Raleigh (I don't know of any around here). I can't think of the place on Capital Blvd to save my life. :x :x :x Need more ginko!! I'll probably think of it about 10 tonight! Raleigh Music .... dern! Where's Ken? He'll know.
I don't think the High school band suggstion was meant as a joke? Honestly, it will teach you the music basics for "free". It will also give you the dicipline to stay with it. Now, if you've got money to burn ..... try Sam Ash on Capital Blvd. You'll find lots of tips from the staff on who and whats good for your start-up.
If I am thinking correctly I don't think you can join band in high school. My middle school age child said if a person doesn't join in 6th grade then they can't join at a later date. Am I wrong?
lol guys guys.. im thinking more along the lines of a travis barker style (very famous drummer from a band called blink-182) but im looking for a alternative rock style band drummer vibe and a set to get me rockin out on.
If you know nothing about music or drums you don't start that complicated. Your not going to jump right in and start playing a certain style. You have to start at the bottom and work up. Your going to go through some boring practices so get use to it now.
Check with a poster by the name Blusdrmr,he could point you in the right direction, also they have some cheap drum sets on craigslist Get you a couple of Sandy Nelsons old records(Let there be Drums and Quite a Beat) play along with these ,I had a friend that did that, got to be a good drummer
My son has been taking lessons with Ivan at the Neighborhood Academy of Music for about 6 months now. Ivan is a very accomplished drummer who has played for the biggest names in music. He has taught my son to read music, all the ins and outs of drumming from paradiddles to syncapation and so on. I would definitely start there.
Ivan Hampden at the Neighborhood Academy of Music is an incredible teacher. We are very lucky to have him in Clayton. Jen
There's a place in Raleigh called 2112 precussions. I believe they may be able to help. They're over on Whitaker Mill road between Capital Blvd and Wake Forest Rd inside the beltline. Mike
