This is long so hang on. A few days ago a forum I visit on a daily basis (baseball forum) switched forum software. All of a sudden I could not post, I could view, but anytime I tried to post it would timeout and give me a "page not found" error. Reported it and there were a few more with the same problem, but no solution. I can post from by work computer. Here's what I've tried since. Bypassed the router (D-Link DI-524), took my modem out of bridge mode (Embarq DSL) and was able to post with no problem, so I ruled out the NIC card and the mode as being a problem. Put the modem back in bridge mode. (I've tried all this in IE7, Firefox and Opera) I then reset to defaults on the router, no help. Even tried it with no firewall. I then changed the router MTU setting from 1492 to 1420 and was able to post. Problem was I then could not access my email and could not get to anything Microsoft related (Hotmail, Windows Live Messenger or the MS website itself). I also changed the MTU settings in RegEdit and used DrTCP to change settings.

So I changed the MTU back to 1492 and the MS related stuff and my email went back to working.

Does anyone have any ideas of something else to try to be able to get it working?

Which model embarq modem are you using?? If it's the older 6000 series call and have them send you a 660. The 6000 series and the D-Link 524 have a major fault since the new changes to the Embarq DSL service. If you need one quicker, I have them on hand.

I actually have the 645ME. But tonight when I got home I did some testing. I kept pinging the website in question until I could get a solid number to use in the MTU. I then pinged Microsoft until I got it near the number. I finally got 1464 to work for both. Thanks for the suggestion about the modem. Is there a big enough difference in the 645 and the 660 to warrant a call? I got this one when it was still Sprint. They haven't changed anything about way the DSL functions (i.e. modem) since they became Embraq, have they. I do understand in April their relationship with Earthlink will be terminated. I'm guessing we get new email addresses with embarg.com.

Wow.... 645ME ?? Yes, scrap that modem, it's crap.

Call embarq and complain about it dropping connections and ask if you qualify for a free replacement. If you've been with Sprint that long you should get a free 660 in 3 days. The set up, compared to the 645, is simple, just plug it in and go.

While your on the phone, complain about not getting the speeds your suppose too. They can enhance your connection and you will see an improvement. Mine increased about 10%.

Squeaky wheel theory works with Embarq!!

Great advice Dan. i called Embarf with slow speed and connection issues and was told the same thing. the earlier modems are having "issues" with the higher speeds.i have a new modem on the way and will be upgraded from 3.0 to 5.0 for less per month.it pays to inquire on billing ,even if you think there are no problems.

Just got mine... installed it with no problems, works well with the wireless router. There is a bit of speed increase, or so it seems. Gonna run a few speed tests at different times today.

    Thanks again for the advice.
