Wheither or not it was meant to trick someone or not, just goes to show how little attention people pay. Because as stated in several of my posts, I've seen it before in car audio auctions on e-bay, as well as other electronics type items.

And honestly in a true court of law I would bet money that as long as it was stated in the auction listing what you were buying you would be out money.

Judge Judy not a true court?

"And honestly in a true court of law I would bet money that as long as it was stated in the auction listing what you were buying you would be out money."

Loyal Judge Judy fans will not buy that argument. Judge Judy stated that in the ad it weighed so many (?) ounces and she informed the seller that the photo did not weigh that much. But she awarded the plantiffs an additional $4500. for punitive damages because the sellers intent was to deceive the public. Surely any seller that gets $200+ for a photo of a cell phone knew they had deceived the buyer.

No beating coming from me and I live with him.. unfortunately, some people ask for it. Doesn't matter if it's a cell phone "photo" and someone is not thorough enough to have read the entire auction text, or a 'ho on a corner in a sleazy corner of town.. it's all the same.. some people just beg to be taken advantage of. Whether its because of their own naivity, generosity or just lack of good judgement. In the world the way it is today, there is someone on every corner, every telephone call, or every e-mail just looking to make a fast back on an unsuspecting schmuck. No one can afford to just assume anyone is on the up & up.. do you're homework, read the fine print and like usual... if it sounds to good to be true... it sure as heck probably is. I've seen the same sort of auctions, and I'll bet anyone who has the time to look hard enough could probably find atleast one right now for a PS3 "box" (with nothing in it). I've seen them myself when the PS2's first hit. If anyone were to come upon one and believe someone is selling a photo or box with the intent to scam, you should report it to Ebays "Safe Harbor" department and they will investigate it.

Stop now, Clif. You know better. That wasn't HG's point or intent at all.

A friend of mine told me about the same type of thing happened to a co-worker. Thought he'd bought a Playstation....instead he'd bought a picture of one.....since hearing that, I make sure I read everything very carefully!

Just as Clif knows good and well that is not what I said either. Clif just wants to be a jerk about it, by using an example that one involves physical bodily harm and is a direct violation of the law, and compare it to someone being too stupid to read an entire auction listing before bidding on something that may or may not have been a deception or intent to mislead. He is wanting to compare apples to oranges and guess what.....you can't.

Class, Back to the topic... or nearer to the topic...

Anyone remember, say 1968, in the back of the Rolling Stone Mag,
an Ad to AVOID the DRAFT???

Send $$$ for a sure-fire way to avoid the VietNam War Draft.

You got a card that said - "Enlist".

Um, that's exactly what you said. (see below)

No, we were talking about people who are the victims of crimes deserving it.

I'm sure there are a lot of people out there willing to spend $400 for a picture of a cell phone.

    Get real!

Certainly, on page two of this thread:

Here's where the word "rape" came up.

Anyways...........Read things carefully before you buy. That's with anything. There are people always looking to make a quick buck so beware!

    Clif;

It's called reading comprehension which as pointed out by others in this thread you haven't grasped yet. Which apparently is also what brought about this topic and the Judge Judy show.

All weel and good, except that you need to read more than just his comment. Look backwards and you'll see things differently:

(paraphrased, please review the actual quotes)
Me: Isn't that like saying that a woman who walks in the park alone deserves to get raped?

    CraigSPL: No nothing like it.

    Me: Yes, exactly like it.

CraigSPL: Very well then, yes, if she's stupid enough to walk the park dressed as a hooker with money hanging out all over, then she deserves to get victimized.

As you can see, the "spin" is the lack of context.

I'm sorry, I thought you comprehended reading.

    My apologies.

Clif.. he had to put a the "extreme" spin on it (the stripper with hundreds hanging out of her pockets) to make it be apples to apples in your eye. In reality.. it apples to grapes and not similar in the least, money vs. health & well-being. Those people on Judge Judy got taken advantage of because they didn't pay attention to the details, period. I'm not saying it's right, and maybe having to fork out $5000 as determined by J.Judy will keep the dishonest parties from doing that again, but it happens. People get taken advantage of in all walks of life, in every form, every day.

You're right. They didn't think to look at the fine print to see that they were spending $400 on a picture!

That's true, but as you point out it doesn't make it right. No one, not even a hooker with money pouring out of her pockets walking through the Combat Zone, deserves to be raped, robbed or any other form of advantage taking that you can imagine.

Well said, Clif. We all should protect ourselves, but that doesn't give people the right to take advantage of those who don't. Even if they can twist the language to make it fit the letter of the law, it may be "legal" but that doesn't make it right. It's sad that some people seem to have no ethical or moral standards.*

*Speaking of people who sell pictures of items or empty boxes, not anyone on this forum.

Whenever you set out to gain something by deceiving others, you are in the wrong. Point blank. You can't reason your way around this fact. Perhaps you'll get a bite and catch some sucker, but you're the one who baited the hook and tossed your line in the water. Therefore you deserve the greatest punishment. On the contrary, people should not be punished as a result of trusting others. You can reason and argue all you want Craig, but the majority of people don't have much use for scammers, schemers, or con artists.
