Did you know that Bjs has an outside salesman that discounts memberships? Friday my car stalled in the Food Lion parking lot and this guy named Ken wearing a Bjs badge jumped-started me. Just so happened that our Bjs membership cards were due for annual renewal at $45 and I found out he does them for $30 and gives 13 months instead of 12. He refused any payment for helping me so I got my membership renewed and told him I would help him with referrals. His ph. is 427+4354
I sure did. I wrote a check to BJs Club and went today. They knew him at the membership desk when I asked and my information was already updated and the 13 months in tact. Oh, by the way he gave me a copy of my membership contract which also served as a receipt. Also, it had a temporary membership on the back in case I was a new member waiting to get processed.
I doubt I would give him $30 under those circumstances, but it looks like the guy is pretty open about it and has been doing it since at least October. http://www.city-data.com/forum/raleigh-metro-area/16986-best-cosco-bjs-sams-club-2.html
have been with them for over a year. coming up on renewal and think I'm gonna pass. Other than the location, it has no advantage over Sams. I think that my biggest beef with their operation is that they subcontract the auto, battery, and tire stuff out to another company. I purchased some replacement batteies for the RV from the club. Had to go all the way in back to get the Munro guys to get them for me, paid for them, and the munro guys aksed if I had paid for installation. I told them no, that I would install them, and having dropped off the older ones, figured my business was complete. Munro manager was peed off that I wasn't paying to have them installed, and said he could not take the old batteries. Rather than call him a dipstick and walk, I showed him my receipt which also included recycle fee payment, and told him the old ones were their concern, not mine. Friends who have had stuff done swear that they have been nickled and dimed over everything. While not at Ken's level of being a jack of all trades and master of most, I can install house batteries in the RV. They really peeved me when they forgot I was the customer whose business they should have been trying to earn. Didn't like the manager's attitude at all, and will not go back for auto service. Overall..I'll pass.
I'm with you there, we've been Sam's Club members for probably about 12 years or so, I had the BJ's one when they first opened, but didn't find them to have any better deals than Sams. But that is just my opinion. I no longer have anything done to my car at Sam's, one too many sets of tires that they could NEVER get balanced. Now I get those at Clayton tire and couldn't be happier. But overall, I like Sam's much better than BJ's.
I am a member of both Sams and Bjs. I guess anyone can nitpick at problems with any store (sorry Walmart). I do compare shop on major ticket items which saved me $250 this Christmas on a tv from Bjs over Sams price + the Gas Station is alot closer. Then again, there are some items at Sams I buy on a regular basis that Bjs doesnt carry. The TV purchase saved me enough to justify both memberships for 5 more years I guess.
Been a while since I did Sam's but I believe you can purchase in smaller quantities at BJ's and manufacturers coupons can be used. In addition they are closer and not affiliated with Wallyworld.
Valid points! But I am a creature of habit sometimes, LOL! I've actually been going to Sam's club since about '86, my parents owned a convenience store and we used to get some stock there way back when, old habits die hard! I even worked at Sam's club in Illinois when DH was in the Air Force in the early 90's for a few months. One of the worst jobs I ever had! I definitly have mixed feelings about Walmart! I let my BJ's membership go before I started using coupons last year, but since they don't double or triple, I don't think I am missing out on too much. Not enough to warrent having two memberships anyway.
Coming from Massachusetts 10 years ago... we had both Costco & BJ's. My mom had a family membership to BJ's (they don't have those anymore.. just the one additional household member now), and my ex-husband and I had a Costco. I really didn't prefer one much over the other... I do prefer BJ's over Sams though. I think BJ's has better quality meats, cheeses, seafood and wine selection. I used to alot of making party platters with meats, cheeses, finger sandwiches, fruit & veggies etc... and always prefer the quality of BJ's products to Sams. We have a household membership for BJ's currently and I do get my gas, kitty litter, cat food and dog food there, among some regular grocery and OTC pain reliever products. I keep a Sams Club card only because it's issued through the company I work for, it's nice to have for comparison shopping big ticket items, and on occasion we buy smaller stuff there too. I'll shop for papergoods, laundry, shelf & pantry items at whoever has the best prices. I haven't been to the Costco since it's opened, I just wish it were closer to JoCo. Maybe I'll get over there to check it out one day and get the company to switch from Sams to Costco.
That gentleman came to my office for our business membership and while he was here offered me the personal renewal for $30 also for 13 months and as long as you renew before the expiration date it will renew for $30. He was totally legit. i like BJ's better than Sam's too mainly for the location. i carried both cards for awhile but never seemed to make it to Sam's so now just have BJ's.
sam's Vs Costco or BJ's Part of being a member at a club is to check your card when you come in. If you want to look around you can do that with out a card, but you can't purchase with out a membership. Costco membership is more expensive 50 bucks, Bj's is 45 and Sam's is 40 for the basic membership... Sam's is owned by walmart, but it's way differant to work for one or the other. I myself would never work for a wally world, but I do work at a Sam's. Big differance!
oh they must have went down then, I know Sam's has one for 35 as well, but it's not the family one. My dad as both and he said he likes Sam's better, but BJ's is closer to home for him..so he tends to shop at BJ's more.. Thanks for the correction!
... look back to page one... you know.. the post that started this? ... edit: now that i'm actually in this thread... LOL! BJ! ;x ... ... that is all.
