OK, My Car parked in parking space gets hit...I see it from a distance. Go run over there to prevent person from leaving... Cop comes and get info from the other driver. All I need is a new bumper, thank God,.... So I call the other driver insurance only to find out that they had cancelled their insurance the month before...... DO I:

    1. File under my own insurance for it.... Will my insurance go up?
    2. Call the Police Dept. and tell them they got false info. and to call up the people and get the correct insurance info.
    3. Just take the other people to small claims court to get the money from them.
4.I thought it was illegal to not have car insurance... What can be done about this. I pay when I cannot afford it... but the other people should be fined for lapse of insurance... How do I go about this?......Any suggestions will be helpful... I do need to replace the bumper, not at my expense....

You file it under your insurance and then your insurance company will try to sue the other driver for the funds... Being that it is just a bumper it normally will not go up unless you have other things on your policy and then it "could" go up.... but generally not (since it is just a bumper)...

Or pay for it on your own and then take them to small claims court...

Yes, I have uninsured/underinsured on my policy. I just don't want my policy to go up since this was not my fault....Will it, for maybe a $300.00 or less claim? I mean the bumper does need to be replaced... It did the job that it was supposed to do and that was to protect the vehicle... so there was no other damage.......

Whether your rates go up depends on any other claims you may have made. Even if not at fault claims, the frequency will affect your rates.

Glad you caught them. Some IDIOT backed into my Blazer at Walmart last week. I wasn't lucky enough to see them . I walked out and seen a chunk of my bumper gone. No note or anything.

Wal-Mart has cameras, contact them to see if it was caught on tape. ;)
