    Dr. Byrd a Ophthalmologist?

Is Dr. Byrd a Ophthalmologist or Optician? I assume a Ophthalmologist if he is a Dr. I need a good Ophthalmologist as I had a really bad experience with Dr. Lowry in Raleigh recently. 1 hour and 50 minutes for annual eye exam. That was the final straw for me after 7 years of seeing him. Shuffled me between waiting room and examination room too many times.

So did you go to Dr. Byrd, Kaci? I'm looking to go somewhere to and with all the local docs coming into the area I'd much rather stick around here than travel to Raleigh.

Both optometrists and opthalmologists can call themselves doctor.

Correct, I have worked for both in the past. If you have an eye disease that needs treating (glaucoma, cataracts, things like that) I would see an opthamologist, I believe they are an MD specializing in the eye. If you need your vision corrected, or just have pink eye or something minor, an optomotrist is who I would see, their education is more geared to vision correction and minor eye issues, they do go to school a long time, but they are not MD's. They do screen for bigger problems, but they will have to refer you to an MD for surgery, or more complicated procedures. I would not bother go to an opthamologist for just vision correction, you'd probably be paying more than necessary in my opinion and honestly would probably get better vision correction from an optometrist.

I love Dr. E at the Clayton Wallyworld...that was the most thorough exam I've had in a long long long time...
