According to this report (i didn't paste the whole thing) NC's auto insurance rates are the 9th highest in the country and while the trend is for rates to be decreasing across the country, our's is still increasing. Go figure.

For the second year in a row, Insurance.com’s Auto Insurance Pricing Report notes that where you live matters when it comes to your car insurance rate.

Based on data drawn from the lowest average auto insurance rates per household viewed by over 1.1 million car insurance consumers on the Insurance.com platform in 2006, 37 states saw a reprieve in 2006 from the high costs of auto insurance. “We’ve seen a trend towards lower cost auto insurance over the last couple of years and the Insurance.com’s 2006 Pricing Report supports this conclusion,” stated Dave Roush, CEO of Insurance.com.

Tell me about it! I'm about to go sign over my first born to them. Service ain't all that good either. I noticed Ohio is way cheaper. Eye glasses cost about half there compared to here. I'm going back!

    See y'all

Is this info accurate and statistical? Do they account for they type and number of vehicles per household and # of drivers. Maybe we have a higher percentage of drivers with moving violations?

Are you paying what they suggest is the "lowest average"? We have two vehicles, both 2001, and pay about $1110 per year. That's not even close to their figure.

If you go to their site and read the entire report - way too long to post on here - it does state that individuals may vary based on their driving record, types of coverage, etc. This is just an average for the whole state. One reason i can see our rates are higher is that anyone with a license must carry insurance whether they own a car or not. That was a first for me when i first moved here. Before, wherever i lived, insurance follows the vehicle and unless you owned a vehicle you were not required to carry insurance. Thus, more people here are paying insurance.

Although this article is a little dated (Sept. 2005), I'm guessing the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) research and data is more reliable than Insurance.com

It looks like a self-selected sample, not a scientific sample. "Based on data drawn from the lowest average auto insurance rates per household viewed by over 1.1 million car insurance consumers on the Insurance.com platform in 2006" means to me the data is based on people who happened to visit their web site, not all drivers in any state.

I have one vehicle, a 2000 Chev Tracker, and I paid $272 in November for 6 months. I think that includes comp but not collision, which IIRC would be about $80 - 90 more for 6 months.

Don't get me started! What with their "no we don't count those speeding tickets that were more than 3 years old against you; well, yes, they are figured in when we compute your rate, but we don't hold them against you in any way" Don't get me started!

i don't know, but i tend to believe the insurance.com more just speaking from personal experience. When we moved down here from MD and before that VA, with no changes in anything (no tickets, accidents, etc.) our rates in NC were a lot higher than any we had ever paid. i remember hearing about when the NC Insurance Commissioner made that statement and i was shocked and thinking no way is that possible. Who knows, people love to play with stats and i can only base my belief on my own personal experience.

I've been here in NC since I was born, so I have always paid out the ___(nose)___ for car insurance.

    Our Insurance isn't bad I don't think

    We've got

    01 Maxima
    01 Chevy Cargo Van (work)
    96 F150
    03 Harley

Pay about $230/mo just for the vehicles. All 4 have full coverage. We could drop FC on the Maxima and F150 and the Van since they are paid for but... something will happed the day I do that! House is seperate.

Oh yeah we have ZERO points on our record!

VA is, well was when i was there, the same way - no fault accidents are not counted against your insurance rates. But hitting a tire in the road, i believe, would still be looked at as an at fault accident unless the tire fell off of a vehicle in front of you and was unavoidable.

Yeah i know, but after working in claims in VA for 8years, one thing i learned is that determination of fault is not always common sense:lol:

    omg, Omg, OMG, OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG...!

I started to post last week that my 6 months auto insurance rates had gone from $617.00 to $766.00, a 20% INCREASE! I always gripe about being "insurance poor" and man was I steamed so I called my Insurance Agent and ask them what the heck was up???

She pulled my folder and said the new $766.00 figure was Not for 6 Months, but for 12 MONTHS...! MY RATES HAD GONE DOWN 40 PERCENT...!!!! DOWN! 40%...!

Agent said, "the Ins. Co. just had a structure review of all their rates, adjusted them and it looks like you made out real well". Made out real well, are you kidding? I am on cloud 9, my rates have Never gone down.

The only thing that I could add was, "I wish Blue Cross Blue Shield would look at their criminal rate structure".

    Gotta plug em:
Agent: Green and Wooten Insurance, (919) 556-4171
    Ms. Odham
Ins. Co: Harleysville Mutual Insurance Company

I do get the long time customer discount. Started with both these companies when I was 18 and have been there 32 years.

    WOW

Congrats on such a low rate. I get the longtimer's discount too, but mine's nowhere near that cheap. Next year, it'll go up over $250 when I traverse from married client to single client. What a rip!

Tell me about, Froggie. My guess is that the ripping won't stop with car insurance, either. BTDT:p
