When I first read this posting I called the 919-733-7988 number and they took down my name & number after I told them I objected to this guy being allowed to visit our area. Today I called the NC Parole Comm (919-716-3010) to share my views concerning this sick individual ... I was transferred to a Mr. Butler's office where I was told that I needed to contact the Prison unit where Mr.Chance was housed, the Wake Correctional Center ... which I think is the 733-7988 number you gave originally. Thanks for getting the word out!!! Without folks like you this guy may have been allowed to enter the area without any of us knowing he was coming. Hopefully he will realize that noone is going to role out a welcome carpet for him.

Two Issues 24 hour pass and parole conditions

We are really working on two issues:

    1. Prevent Danny Chance from obtaining a 24 hour pass or any home release pass to his brother's house in the Jordan Ridge subdivision. Most compelling reason is that we are less than 1 mile from Polenta Elementary School. Danny Chance is a rapist, murderer and kidnapper. His rape victim was 14 years old and the young man murdered was 23.

Numbers to call to express your opposition to the 24 hour pass or any pass are as follows:

Dewayne Baker - Case Manager, 733-7988
Mr. Baker is the person that came to the neighborhood to investigate how Danny would be received.

Eileen Cochran - Superintendent Wake Correctional Center, 733-7988
Ms. Cochran will be making a decision on whether or not Danny Chance receives a 24 hour pass.

George Curry - Central Region Director, Division of Prisons, 715-4175
Mr. Curry has the ultimate decision on whether or not Danny Chance receives a 24 hour pass.

    2. Prevent Danny Chance from being paroled. If we cannot prevent Danny Chance from being paroled then he must be considered and registered as a predatory sex offender and as a condition of his release not be permitted to live close to any schools. WE NEED TO MAKE THAT CASE IN NOVEMBER 2007 since he will not be released on parole until January 2008. If we make that case now, it may get buried in the file. We stand a better chance of attaching conditions to his release if the case is made closer to his release date.

The most pressing issue is to prevent Danny Chance from obtaining a 24 hour home pass. Please call Eileen Cochran and George Curry and tell them you do not want Danny Chance to obtain a 24 hour home release pass to the Cleveland community. A big thank you to DA Susan Doyle for agreeing to call and express her objection. I was told that input from the DA and Sheriff weigh very heavily in the decision making process of a home release pass.

THANK YOU! The pressure is definitely making a difference.

I want to thank you, kroywendy, for spearheading this vitally important effort. As Mr. Baker didn't contact anyone in Twisted Oaks (most notably, the people whose backyards abut the Chance backyard), we would not have been aware of this had you not posted the information.

Actually its George Currie..if anyone writes him, make sure you have the right spelling. If the Sheriff has already objected, those passes are DOA. As a retired Supt with DOC, I can tell you that once local law enforcement objected, that was the end of the investigation.

    Way to go Steve

I believe you are mistaken, as I seem to remember the requirement is also if they were released from prison after the date of enactment.

    B. SEXUALLY VIOLENT OFFENSES
The chart below lists all the “sexually violent” offenses as defined by G.S. § 14-208.6(5). Take special note of the right hand column headed, “KEY DATE”. In order to be subject to registration the offense must meet the KEY DATE requirements.
First or second degree rape or sexual offense:
Convicted or Released from Penal Institution on or after Jan. 1, 1996

When is an offender required to register?
Registration deadlines can vary. See some examples below.
    - within 10 days of establishing residency in the State
    - being present in the State for at least 15 days
    - within 10 days of release from a North Carolina correctional facility
    - immediately upon conviction of a reportable offense, with no active sentence
    - when enrolled in a North Carolina institute of higher education

    Thanks Representative Langdon!!!

James Langdon's office called me today to let us know that they are making some calls on our behalf. They said Mr. Langdon is aware of the situation and is taking this matter very serious. Let's all give Mr. Langdon a hand for helping us make a difference.

I actually worked for Mr. Currie for several years and I can tell you that he offended alot of Correctional Officers one night in line-up by telling us that the only difference between us and the inmates we were guarding was that we hadn't been caught yet.

Didn't sit well with alot of officers. And at the time we had roughly 30-35 officers each night on 3rd shift and between 750-900 inmates on any given night, and then you walk in to line-up and make that comment....not a smart man.

I worked for him and with him over the years..always found him to be one of the smartest and most fair men I knew in DOC. Also had a lot of dealings with him in SEANC. Once you get to the rank of LT with DOC, you see a lot of truth in the statement he made...especially when you're spending over 75% of your time on employee investigations.

Thanks to whomever it was passing out the flyers in Twisted Oaks yesterday. I read this post yesterday morning, but assumed it wasn't going to be close to me. Anyway, I called the number listed and someone took my name, address and phone number. Nothing else was said other than she'd let Ms. Cochran know. I hope this will make a difference.

To think someone like that can be released to a home within 500' of so many children is shocking. He's been convicted of kidnap, rape and murder! This isn't petty theft, breaking and entering or even armed robbery! Kidnapping, rape and murder! Some young innocent man died and some innocent young lady was scared for life. Not to mention the pain and suffering that the families of the victims went/are going through.

How can his brother even agree to let him come live in his home? Imagine if the guy just snapped one day and harmed one of the kids (or adults) nearby. How could his brother live with that? If this was one of my siblings and he had been convicted of those crimes, he wouldn't be allowed in my house under any circumstance.

    To RoStrawberry

This man's brother lives [edited] in Jordan Ridge subdivision. His house backs up to the back yards of a couple of houses in phase one of Twisted Oaks.

I remeber seeing the subdivison sign just recently...but can't place it in my mind BUT I do know its not too far from where we live now.

Its a shame we can't let our kids roam around and have fun outside without being there to supervise...I don't care if the kids are 9, 10 or 14 years old.

You can never be too careful or too protective over your kids.

Actually he is his brother's keeper if he agrees to bring him into the neighborhood for a 24-72 hour pass. He's signing that he's responsible for him while he's in the neighborhood at that address.

Number one, I didn't post the brother's information on a public forum. But once the brother agreed to sponsor his murdering sibling for a weekend pass, his address actually became pubilc information.

I agree wholeheartedly.. if it's public information, there's no reason the public shouldn't know exactly where a murderer is possibly going to be staying. I would think if it was in your subdivision Ken, and your wife and children are presumeably home alone, you would appreciate knowing if the man that lived within a stones throw of your house was going to be hosting a convicted murderer, rapist & kidnapper for the weekend.

Everyone! Next time this should come up... if the convict gets a weekend pass to Kens sub-division, please don't tell him. Let it be a surprise to him and hope he doesn't find out the hard way.

Actually the brother put himself into this when he signed an agreement to sponsor him. If he hadn't signed the agreement, I doubt anyone would ever have brought him into the conversation.

If my brother had raped a 14 yr old, and killed someone else, yes I would turn him away because I have too much concern for my teenage daughters that live with me. I'd still love my brother, but I wouldn't sponsor him or encourage him to be around my teenage daughters who I love more than him.
