A Clayton minister will spend 30 years in prison for trafficking in child pornography.
In Raleigh on Wednesday, U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III sentenced Larry Douglas Stacy to the 360-month prison term.
On May 15 of last year, Stacy pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. After the plea, Stacy was looking at 17 years in prison. But two online chats with a person going by the name of “uncutdaddy32” caused Judge Dever to extend Stacy’s sentence.
“Uncutdaddy32” claimed to have a 14-year-old daughter with multiple sclerosis. In the conversations, Stacy arranged with “uncutdaddy32” to meet at the Cleveland community Cracker Barrel so Stacy could have sex with the girl. Although Stacy now says the girl never existed, the chats have Greensboro police searching for the possible child-abuse victim.
Assistant Federal Public Defender Devon Donahue reminded Judge Dever that investigations had not turned up evidence that the meeting ever happened. Federal Agent Elizabeth Fernandez has been searching for the girl for nearly eight months with no success. But the absence of a victim did not aid Stacy’s defense.
“The enhancement doesn’t require actual contact with a minor,” Dever ruled.
Donahue contended that Stacy had otherwise led a productive life. An honorably discharged Vietnam War veteran, Stacy had been married for over 35 years and had reared two daughters. Stacy had also apologized for his behavior in front of his church, where he served as an ordained minister.
Clayton police detective Tamra Allen was contacted in late October 2005 when Stacy’s name surfaced in an out-of-state child-abuse investigation. Allen, a member of the N.C. Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, said the information she received led police to Stacy’s home at 924 Norris Road.
Stacy was indicted in January 2006 after investigators examining his computer found 838 still images and 74 video files showing explicit sexual abuse of children ranging in age from 8 months to 14 years. Also discovered was a large volume of “chat logs,” which showed Stacy engaging in “a pattern of actively and repeatedly seeking to arrange to sexually abuse young children,” according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
He was charged also with running “an interactive computer service for the purpose of distributing obscene, lewd, lascivious and filthy matter of indecent and immoral character in interstate commerce.”
Before his sentencing, Stacy addressed Judge Dever: “Your honor, what I’ve done is wrong. It’s heinous. It’s sick.... I also know I don’t want to die in prison. I beg for your mercy.”

    Two questions:

    1. What church was he the minister at?

    2. How long will it take for the other inmates to do to him what he wanted to do to those kids?

Burn in hell, you sick ****!

He actually wasn't the minister at a church here, he was a Deacon. They must have misprinted with bad info. I DO think he was a minister in another state before moving here...seems like I remember him saying that...

Probably a very good chance that WON"T happen. Its pretty much a myth that child predators are victims of revenge in prison.

I know this man and his family and let me just say this... never in a million, billion, gazillion years would I ever have expected this from him. I am so sad for his wife, his daughters and their children. Please pray for them, I can't imagine what they must be going through.

Sadly, this is what could probably be said of about 90% of those convicted of these crimes, you just can't tell by looking or being around them.

Pedaphiles spend a lot of time and energy getting access to their victims. Usually they will seem like the nicest, most trustworthy people you have ever met, because they work hard to make that impression. They also work hard at getting in postions where they will have a lot of contact with children, such as clergy, school, coaching, etc. By far, most of the people in those postitions are law-abiding people who are there for the right reason, to help young people develop. However, these postitons make great cover and give easy access to the victims for a pedophile. So how do you know the difference? That's not easy. Background chaecks are probably the best protection we have because the best predictor of a person's behavior is their past behavior.

BTW, I agree with the lengthy sentence. Society needs to be protected from these predators. In general, they do not change.
