Just...wow. Some people from the 9th Ward in New Orleans have somehow been duped into thinking Hugo Chavez gives a whoop about them. I guess that $2000 debit cards and $150,000 grants to reward them for not keeping their houses insured adequately just isn't quite enough for these people. Oh...and the 18 months of free housing didn't quite cut the cake either. Yep, that certainly spells "being deserted" by their government. http://www.peoplesorganizing.org/breaking_news.html#nos
What else can we expect from a bunch of morons who live in a bowl surrounded by an ocean, with no insurance, who didn't leave during a hurricane, and now want to rebuild in the same place. There is no government on Earth equipped for such ignorance, not even Venezuela. But I'd be willing to pay to have them permanently relocated there ...just in case Venezuela can do better.
I think you guys should get into your cars and trucks and drive there and kill all the miserable drains on society.... thin the herd.....you could do a major tailgating party too.
Are you suggesting that they are in the right? This is my third post directed at you today. I'm not attacking you, just find that your comments are the only ones today worth addressing
Actually I agree that living somewhere that's sure to be destoyed by natural disaster and not leaving when it was obvious it was about to happen was pretty stupid.....I'm also having a little sport with Mag and Josies outrage.... I mean, it's already established that these people are stupid so why be outraged or surprised over stupid behavior? I guess I'm sort of just being silly... just being myself....it's a defense mechanism to cover my deeply rooted low self esteem and fright over a large and unsettling world.... God I need a hug....
you bring the gun rack and the beer in your truck... since I'm a liberal I'll bring the wine rack in mine....
You know the crawfish should be coming in now. I'll take a few exta beers for you. A crawfish boil, beer, and bullets. It don't get no better than that!!!!!
Heck, Steve...there in Nawlins, they are thinning their own herd. Personally, I think they should just set aside one night this summer and all meet in the 'drome. Do all their shooting and killing of each other in one place at one time, with the body bags standing by. Stop dragging it out, why don't they. Killing each other at the rate of 5 per month is just for drama.
what's your point? If they offed themselves inone night where's the entertainment in that/ that would be forotten quickly.... like the disaster itself. Using the method currently in application the right has something to continually cluck about and reinforce their stereotypes about the poor and those nasty democrats. You're not thinking this through... this is perfect for your team.
No one has "forgotten" that disaster, Steve. People have simply moved on in spite of it. That's what a healthy society does. The nation mourned the loss, contributed to the victims, and offered assistance for those most closely affected. Problem is, some of those affected continue to claim victim-status long after they should. "Stereotyping" is just another word for people speaking frankly about their observations, Steve. Observations occur when people notice facts. People learn from, and retain, those facts in the course of watching and noticing what is occurring around them. This includes the observation of what is occuring in various cultures within our society. Culture itself is defined as the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social group. When a behavior is observed repeatedly within a particular culture within our society, then it's not at all illogical to expect to see that behavior from others who choose to belong to that culture because they can be expected to act on their shared behaviors and beliefs. What is sad is what we see in the people we are discussing. Not only does this culture share negative behaviors, they share the mistaken beliefs that they are within their right to impose those negative behaviors on the rest of society. It's not discriminatory, or bigoted, or racist to form logical conclusions based upon one’s observations. In fact, it’s instinctual for animals - including humans - to do so. It’s a matter of self-preservation...and preservation of the society as a whole. Those who chose to belong to a culture that exhibits behaviors that are non-productive, irresponsible and criminal, lay an unnecessary burden upon the other members of a society. And the members of that negative culture are going to be ostracized, abandoned and looked down upon by the productive, responsible, non-criminal members of that society. That is how a society works. That's how it sets boundaries and limits that keep it civil, fairly respectful, and keeps it from becoming a dangerous free-for-all that will inevitably cause it's demise. When behaviors are detrimental to society as a whole, and those behaviors are without a doubt being perpetrated by a group of people who share similar traits, that behavior - and those people - will be called down. It’s that simple.
Maggy, when were you last down there? I have been down there a couple of times this year and there are plenty of folks that can still claim victim status. You need to move past the French Quarter pictures, they do not reflect the real New Orlean's, not that ever did. That said I did finally see some real improvement last month only about 1/3 of the roofs out my hotel still needed blue tarps to protect the roofs.
You know which ones I'm talking about...and which ones I'm not talking about, Hught. Don't play dumb liberal with me. I've not seen any French Quarter pictures. Apparently damage to affluent communities wasn't newsworthy. You don't need to talk to me about the current state of damaged property from Katrina, Hught...I work in the Hazard Insurance industry. And you and I both know that those blue tarps are on homes that are owned by people who paid insurance premiums and deserve claim money and are working through those claims. And we both know those aren't the ones I'm talking about.
I know which ones you are talking about - So let me get this straight those that had insurance are victims those that don't are not victims. Yep that makes sense, you know us dumb liberals you just got to lay it out for us!
Those that had insurance did all they could to mitigate their losses. The consequences they are suffering as a result of Katrina that are beyond those that could be covered by insurance, are those that were beyond their control. Those that chose not to buy insurance did nothing to mitigate their losses. They are in a position to claim victimhood only for those consequences they are suffering that insurance would not have covered. But you knew that.
Assuming that insurance is free or that everyone can afford it without missing meals too often, which is not the case ...... but then YOU knew that
Nope...just steadfast in my belief that if one holds a view, one should be able to substantiate it. Does that concept confuse you?
If you can't afford to pay for insurance, then you shouldn't be owning a house. It's as simple as that. Sell the house and live in an apartment. That way, if a hurricane comes, you don't have a loss, and won't expect others to pay for that loss. If you disagree, you are free to show me where the Constitution says everyone has the right to homeownership free of the responsibilities of homeownership.
I disagree, but not that they have the right to own a house but that only home owners suffered losses. Those who lived in rental homes and apartments also lost everything they had. Sure, it was not as much as those who may have had more to begin with but it was still a complete loss. Some lost everything inculding their lives, which is why they believe they were the targets of genocide. When the routes out are closed to you and people are killed while trying to leave it might make some wonder about the reasons. http://observer.guardian.co.uk/world/story/0,,2026077,00.html Ronald Madison stayed on in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina - he could not bear to leave behind the family dogs, a beloved pair of dachshunds called Bobbi and Sushi. It cost him his life. Madison, 40, who had the mental age of a child, was shot by police one morrning on Danziger Bridge. James Brisette, 19, was also killed, and four others, including two women, seriously injured. All were black. None had committed a crime. http://www.sptimes.com/2005/09/17/Worldandnation/Neighboring_town_deni.shtml NEW ORLEANS - Confused and desperate, they marched by the thousands toward a bridge that could take them away from the chaos that enveloped this city after Hurricane Katrina. They were turned back by men with rifles and dogs. In stark contrast to Houston's welcoming embrace, the small town of Gretna, La., is accused of turning its back on a neighbor at the most trying time in its history. And because most of the evacuees were black and most of Gretna is white, the episode has stirred charges of racism
