Hi all...got this message from a friend this morning in an e-mail. Interesting huh?

    >Amazing statistic
    >
    > If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops
    > in the Iraq theatre of operations during the last 22 months, and a
    > total of 2,112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000
    >of members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
    >
    > The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000 for
    > the same period.
    >
    >
    > That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and
    > killed in the U.S. Capitol, which has som e of the strictest gun control
    > laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq .
    >
    > Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington immediately.

If your asking about the number of posts I have verses yours I have been on this board for a long time (actually from a previous incarnation of this site). Check the member list, I haven't even got 1/2 the post of the top poster.

Another contributor to my post count is I live on the road and don't drink, so this is my entertainment in the hotel room.

Okay....I'm new to this board as well and have no idea what all of this has to do with the original post???? I just thought it was interesting that more people have been killed in Washington, DC than in the war on Iraq? Would someone please explain what all the other posts have to do with this fact???

As you quoted my post, I will address it first. My comment was in response to this portion of the post I quoted:

Some of the other posts were also in response to portions of prior posts while others were reflecting on the political nature of the joke. With the references to "pulling out, Iraq, and Washington DC, not to mention the way the statistics were used to create a false comparison, which is common in political areas, it is to be expected.

BTW, the comparison was not to the number of people killed in either place, but only of Americans, since to have included all people the casualty rate would have to have been much much higher. That is not as funny though, but it is more factual than funny and most people just want funny when it comes to political humor.

Hey $130 a night will only get you the basics here. Showtime instead of HBO and no Discovery Channel or Comedy Central. :-(

So THIS is the replacement for Comedy Central perhaps?

    (That continental breakfast included?)

    True, True :)

Yep breakfast included, the sorriest excuse for biscuits and gravy I have had yet.

You really should not expect much response to a very old recycled e-mail. My first clue that it's very old? The number of Americans killed in Iraq is now over 3,000. Not sure how long ago it was 2,112.

Besides, staying on topic is not something that happens here. By the time a thread gets over a couple of pages, chances are it has drifted far from the original topic. I guess we're all easily distracted, please don't take offense. ;)

No Comedy Central? How do you keep up with the news without Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert?

:) No offense taken. And I'm sorry it was an old e-mail. (It was new to me and I just thought the comparison was interesting). Thanks for clearing that up for me and have a blessed day!:)
