I'd be interested in seeing the crime rate statistics for Clayton over the past 5 years or so. Violent crime must be on the rise in the town, because there are a lot of high profile incidents taking place.

The article must have changed since the link was posted.

Suicide (or attempted suicide) is hardly a violent crime and should not have been reported as a "shooting".

My DS's girlfriend was in the parking lot and saw it happen. She's pretty shaken up about it. :-(

I hate that, if you are going to be the victim, why make a bunch of other victims?

Assuming it was a suicide attempt.

Because suicide is the most selfish thing anyone can do. Nothing is that bad.

That's TERRIBLE, Bren!!! That's not something that's easy to witness ...

When I first posted the link, it was just a 'shooting' ... I had no idea it was a suicide attempt. I cant imagine someone wanting to do that kind of thing in public ... I was hoping to come here and get some information on it, make sure everyone was ok, but it wasnt talked about yet.

Make sure his girlfriend talks to someone (parent, counselor, anyone) about it!

Doubt its a true suicide attempt. More like a cry for help. Man/woman shoots themselves, in front of a medical facility, and "misses"?

Frank Zappa had a song about that:

"You say there ain't no light a-shinin'
    Through the bushes up ahead
'N we're all gonna be so sorry
When we find out you are dead
Go head on and get it over with then
Find you a bridge 'n take a jump
Just make sure you do it right the first time
'Cause nothin's worse than a Suicide Chump"

Evidently it was a real suicide - WRAL is now reporting that she was DOA at the hospital:cry:

For some reason I am not able to get Wral.com here at work. We were able to a couple of months ago and nope can't get it. I looked on abc11tv.com and don't see anything about it.
Can someone send me the story please?

    From the N&O:
Woman shoots herself at medical office
    By Marti Maguire, Staff Writer
A woman shot herself outside a Johnston County medical center in Clayton just before 10 a.m. this morning, Clayton police reported.
She was airlifted to WakeMed in Raleigh, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Authorities aren't releasing the woman's name or age yet but said that she lived in the greater Clayton area.
Investigators are interviewing several witnesses to the shooting, which took place in the parking lot of a medical center in the 100 block of Guy Road. “This is a self-inflicted shooting,” said Clayton Police Chief Glen Allen.

I was afraid that name sounded familiar, that's where my doctor is. Wonder what in the world is up with that?

This very disturbed woman did not live in the Town of Clayton, but stayed somewhere in Johnston County. I don't know why she drove to the parking lot in Clayton, but I'm glad that no one else was hurt.
