So ... what you're saying is ... there should be no construction or noise around your house? Welcome to the 'new' Clayton. You'll have to move, Chickie!!
I agree. Although that takes a certain amount of courage. Keep in mind that they cannot ignore you when you are standing at their door. I do have to point out that there is another church being built just down the road and I believe that there has been little or no complaint about that construction project (unless it is from the daycare next door). I also believe that they (being a small country church...as mentioned earlier) would listen (and care) if you had a complaint directed for them. Do you think that C3 is so large that they do not care about "Joe Schmoe" since "he" doesn't effect them? Have they lost that personal touch that is vital in a community. I have to wonder. I've never thought about that before now but it seems sad.
Is the problem more about the noise or the fact that they have chosen to ignore you? Being ignored would be the part that upset me the most.
And how would the members of the church feel if I was out cutting my grass at 7:30am on a Sunday morning every other Sunday just as the congregation was arriving for the early service? Craig
I cannot speak for them but I wouldn't be "bothered" by it. I would just hope that you would join us instead.
Not speaking when the words are trying to CRAWL up your throat and past your teeth is an admirable skill...I am impressed and applaud your self control... You are my inspiration! (oh, I've typed and backspaced SO many times...I gotta quit reading this thread... OK, shutting up now...) (Lord forgive me...)
As for the official affiliation, it is more with Thomas Rd Baptist Church run by Jerry Falwell who founded Liberty University (it used to be called Thomas Rd Baptist College at one time). Matt graduated from Liberty and i am not sure the details but the church is still affiliated with Jerry in some manner. i believe Jerry helped in the beginning to get the church on it's feet and the church hires quite a few Liberty graduates to give them their start before they move on to another church. Once a year there is recruitment from Liberty on the church campus also.
I really wish I knew why some of you are gritting your teeth.? Is it because of me or the church? Am I being unrealistic to expect them to follow the building rules like everyone else and start at 7 not at 6? Am I Unchristianly to want a bit of quiet on Sundays before I go to my church and after I come home?
If what I heard is true, I have a big problem with it. I was told by a member of the church that they will have a library and a coffee shop in that building. I would think a church would want to support a charity, missionaries, or the homeless before they open a Starbucks in the sanctuary.
NOT because of you at all...I think you are absolutely right to expect the construction to follow the building rules and, while I love contemporary Christian music, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want it, or any other music blasted at me all weekend... you are not unreasonable to wish for a 'good' neighbor... I know people who used to attend Cleveland Community, and have heard enough of how things are run, and I'm gritting my teeth so that am not being critical... obviously, still having to work on my thoughts, though...oh, well ... God's still got a lot of work to do on me... Hang in there...
It is not that uncommon for churches these days to offer a "coffee shop" ...its just another place for people to fellowship and share coffee or other beverages. Obviously this is more appealing to today's "Starbuck's" society. As far as a library, those have been in churches for ages, although I'm sure this one will be more like a high-tech library instead of the old traditional ones. (I am not a member of this church.) Our church has coffee and food out for people to have before attending services, or take with them to SS classes, its just a nice welcoming touch, especially on cold mornings! :-D
Yes I was. I don't like all the waste that goes on in modern churches either, but hopefully most of their money goes to help others. If not I would recommend changing churches. As for paying someone to scoop your dog's poop, I'm not sure there are many church extravagances that reach that level of humour. If you know of any, please share. How do you know they're not? Maybe the coffee shop draws more people who can give to those charities. I understand your point of view a little better now Peppercorns. I don't know if the county has a noise ordinance like the towns do, but most forbid loud noises before 7am. 6am is unacceptable.
Kaci said: I remember the Falwell connection, but I thought there was an affiliation from a little further north....oh well, VA, OH, it's all northern to me. Stop typing, I know you are from Virginia......it's a little ribbing. Separate Topic, you still sell and deliver topsoil?
LMAO:lol::lol::lol:you would be amazed at how many people actually called me a Yankee when i first moved down here:lol: i replied on the Topsoil thread BTW:-D
