So does ours. So does every church I've ever been to. But there's a BIG difference in setting out coffee in the fellowship hall and having a friggin' COFFEE SHOP in church. How do you think God is going to feel when he looks down at South America and sees starving children, then looks down on C3 and sees a bunch of people sitting in a coffee shop. Not coffee in the fellowship hall or in Bible clas, but a real live, honest to goodness coffee shop (which I understand will charge for the coffee just like Starbucks)! I guess some people haven't heard the story of the money changers in the temple.
and will they be asking their devout followers to staff the coffee shop as a "donation" of their time? Charging for coffee....and free labor..
And where will the money they make be going? To pay the loan on the new church and to buy coffee for the coffee shop. You think any of that money is going to find it's way into the hands of needy families?
If the money went to the needy, minus replenishing costs for the coffee, creamer, and such I think it is a pretty good idea. BUT if the money is to offset the cost of the building then they should have built a smaller building. THey started today making noise a little bit later...6:30. Still not acceptable. going to get the Cleveland post.... and wondering...is this going to annoy me?
Did anyone happen to catch the spot on GMA this morning about ministers and evangilism? I was blitzing through house getting up trash and caught parts of it. Basically it was about how the majority of these high profile churches and ministers live the life of luxury because the masses buy into their word and "tithe" to the lord while the majority of the "tithes" are going into a personal bank account to pay for multi million dollar homes, and luxury cars like a Rolls Royce. One minister they talked with owns a 25,000 sq. ft house, a million dollar yacht, a airplane, helicopter, and several Rolls Royce Cars. Can't imagine he has all that for the welfare of the needy. Craig
Sadly, those are the ones that give the good, HONEST, hard-working, devout ministers a bad name and cause people "on the fence" about religion to fall to the other side.
I suppose the library will be mostly Christian books and the coffee will be Christian coffee so that'll make it okay. These mega churches give me the creeps. As I see that thing being built I can't help but think of the excess involved. Anyone seen the movie, Saved?
Oddly enough Jerry Falwell was one of the ministers mentioned as well in their little spot this morning. And as was shown earlier in this thread C3 has ties that direction. Craig
Exactly what I thought of when I read Harvey's post. A great movie, and I must say that it raised some very good questions about what churches and evangelists are all about. I especially liked the "love never endeth" monologue towards the end of the movie. I think it's one of the best deliveries I've ever seen in a movie. The ending raises some very interesting questions also.
As a former member the current members should look further into Pastors background. I mean really look into what he has. Maybe that should answer some more questions & or maybe it would make you ask. Look to see how many homes he "owns"..... & where they are at.... Ask yourself why did not one person over the last several years get an actual copy of where all the $$$$$ was going. I can't speak for 2006 but prior to that date they would ask us to vote on the "budget" how ever there was no paperwork. That right there in itself is a RED flag. I can also support the fact that I also did alot of volunteer work & he never knew who I was at the church or outside the church. For those that continue to go more power to you. Ask yourself is it really a GOD LED Church I do not see it that way. Listen closely to the scriptures he preaches on. Verify those scriptures & listen to other pastors such as Joel Osteen & see if you don't hear the same thing. Make sure that you are where GOD wants you to be not because you think you need to be in the click to be someone. God loves everyone of us. Satan comes in many forms even those of pastors We are to tithe so says the bible. If this church is not doing right by those tithes the church will suffer 7 times more so says this in the bible. As for a book store & coffee shop more volunteers & really where is the profit going. No property taxes being paid to help the school system. Aren't all churches exempt from this. If they weren't think of all that money the church could help do more with if they had to pay taxes. Just a thought.
We should also be careful and realize that not ALL churches and evangelists are questionable. The bible also says that you should be careful in what you say about "the man of God". This means preachers, evangelists and believers altogether. Of course there are ones who are questionable. But it is GOD who will give what is due. NOT us. Jesus is very plain when he says that if you mess with God's people, it is better for you to have a millstone tied around your neck and put in the water. It is in all the Gospels. Read it for yourselves. Talking bad about one is the same as "messing" with them. I'm not trying to be a smart butt, I'm telling you the truth.
I agree with ^ 100% - and I also believe that if a big church is built for the wrong reasons (and usually the pride of man is the wrong reason) then God Himself will bring it down. He doesn't need us to judge His churches for him.
yep...heard of them, seen them on TV, and have never liked any form of "evangilitical" preaching. I made my comment because of the coincidence of this thread being hot and the fact that C3 has been linked to a minister they commented about on the GMA spot this morning (Jerry Falwell). Craig
Another weekend of boom boom boom on Saturday Night and Sunday and it will be extra loud because they are celebrating having to add another service. oh joy Why doesn't the Cleveland Post have the "huevos" to pick up on this story? Nothing personal to anyone i know and love, but why do they always say just good stuff about C3?. I thought newspapers reported all sides. Maybe they didn't know there was another side. I saw the front page this morning.hmmmm.. Tell 'em to take a walk across the street. I don't think any of us are all that happy they are adding another service. Religously speaking yes i am happy, but as far as my peace and quiet NO!
Please someone from C3 clear things up a bit and share what ministries and missions this church of so many is involved with. We attended when they were meeting at Cleveland E.S. and Polenta AND visited again a few times about two years ago. We could not find ANY information about mission and community ministries.
biting my tongue...biting my tongue... OOhhh ... whoops...there it is on the floor.... (my eyes are rolled SO far back in my head, I can see hair growing!!)
It is interesting that your mention this quote from the Bible. It was used by someone at my parents' church because someone else was questioning the pastor's motives. I have not been able to find this specific reference about no questioning a man of God. Would you please provide your reference? Please don't read this as an attack. I am truly interested to read this for myself.
rrgreennc, The verse is in Matthew 18:6, "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it were better for him that a millstonewere hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." The "little ones" here is depicting believers in Christ. Old and young, man or woman, pastor or parishoner. We will be judged by everything that comes out of our mouths. That is why it is so important to be careful of what you say. When my husband gets on a cussing streak and uses "G.D", my law will tell him, "Go on and keep on damning God and He's gonna put his roots on you." or "Buddy, I wouldn't be in your shoes for your socks for some of the stuff you say." Unfortunately, he is bitter about church and his "words" are against it alot of the time. Which is very hard for me as I am trying to go to church and live a good Christian life. We are unequally yoked at present, so I would appreciate all the prayers for him and his salvation.......Unequally yoked marriages are VERY tough. But that is another thread altogether. Verse 7, "Woe to the world because of offences! For it must needs be that offences come; but woe to the man by whom the offence cometh!" Watch what you say!!!! Can't stress it enough.....And I am talking to myself as well. (Now, before the spelling police hit me, the way it it is spelled in the bible, KJV, is the way I spelled it here.)
