The "millstone" quote is from Luke 17:1-3, but I don't see that it has anything to do with criticizing preachers. Here is an interesting commentary on the minister as "man of God." Sorry, I'm afraid it doesn't answer your question; I tried to find a reference to that issue, and I think it's in there somewhere, but I couldn't find it. Of course we're all familiar with the passages about not judging other people, but I don't think that's what she was referring to, either. Maybe God'schild will enlighten us both.
Sorry, it looks like we were both typing & posting at the same time! My quote is from the NIV; the passages in Luke and Matthew are very similar. I looked up the same passages in NRSV, and it says "occasions for stumbling are bound to come, but woe to the one by whom the stumbling blocks come."
I am actually at work and one of the ladies I work with is a minister. She gave me a verse as well. Psalm 105:15 KJV "Saying, Touch not mine annointed, and do my prophets no harm." All believers are God's annointed as well as Pastors, Reverends, Evangelists, etc... Yes, I understand that some pastors and churches may be questionable. but that is when YOU have to get with God and ask Him to show you the truth and also to show you what church He wants you at.
Well, we shouldn't have offences agaiinst God no way......but God's annointed are the believers. The pastors are the teachers and the delivers of the word, they are annointed to do so. God is not pleased with anyone who does offences against any of his annointed. He just doesn't. There are alot of stories in the bible about people who have done that and have had consequences. Remember to always pray about things that disturb you about people before you say anything against them. That should go for anyone believer or not. But if you are saying things about someone legitimately doing God's work, you are in for issues.
all this bitchin.. i would be happy if they just put in a turn lane so i dont have to wait for people to turn into the church.
It sure is going to be a big church. Hope it ain't an ugly one . Have you written a letter to the church requesting that they provide some sort of sound barrier between you and the building? Trees do wonders to block noise. You could CC: the JoCo planning board (or county commissioners) and probably get a reply that way. I do agree that a turn lane is needed. Should we call the NCDOT Division Engineer, Ricky Greene ((252)237-6164) and request a turn lane be provided? Division 4 phone directory
This is a legitimate question, I hope someone from the church will answer it. Do they support the Basic Needs Ministry? Harbor House, the Smithfield Rescue Mission, anything like that? Local, national, global ministries? They must be doing something right, to have as many members and be growing as fast as they are.
Yes, what they are doing right is making a church service more like a rock concert each week. People love to go to rock concerts, right? Raise money real fast that way!
In regards to your question KdsGrandma... When I did my volunteer time with many things I was also involved in a "cell group" one that worked with Harbor House..............our group did all the work & the church would not back us up. They do have contacts & support missions in India & somewhere else I forgot. They do the Chrstmas Angel thing. Other than that NO. They want to fill their seats with the lost. That is their main focus. Or should I say hurting people....
TALK ABOUT A NOT SO VEILED THREAT!!!! GODSCHILD DO YOU HAPPEN TO ATTEND C3? IM REALLY SURPRISED THAT NOBODY IN AN OFFICIAL CAPACITY WITH THE CHURCH HAS ANSWERED QUESTIONS HERE ABOUT WHAT THEY HAVE GOING ON. THERES LOTS OF STORIES FLOATING AROUND ABOUT FINANCES AND PAID FANCY TRIPS AND MULTIPLE HOUSES AND HANDLING OF MONEY AND MORE. SEEMS LIKE THEY COULD CLEAR THE AIR BY JUST STEPPING UP AND ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS. THAT WOULD BE SIMPLE AND WOULD BENEFIT EVERYONE.
Will I have to be "witnessed" to? Or be a member? Or can I just go up and get a double latte before I head to work?
mordor :? ... So, Pepps, has C3 answered yet? I know that Pepps works outside of the home so maybe she can't get over there when someone's there...and NO, it isn't always manned. I've been over several times to do various things with other organizations and no one was there. Again, the volume of the music needs to be REALLY cranked down. It's too loud. Period. The congregation needs to be able to h-e-a-r the Word well into their 80s, not lose their hearing in a few years... Good luck, girlie!! Frogger
Anytime a church starts warning you about questioning the pastor, you better be very careful. That is why the Jim Jones, David Koresch (sp) of the world can exist, not to mention priests/pastors abusing children. Hitler had great popularity in Germany, but that doesn't mean he was doing things right.
ding, ding, ding, ding! question the pastor, get told you're going to hell. happened right here in this thread. you're the non-believer. you're the 'ungodly' ones referred to in the bible... that, plus the two new posters earlier in the thread who both said "it's all for him"....slogans and catch-phrases raise red flags for me....
