About 4 weeks ago we brought home a yellow lab / golden retriever mix puppy. He's 3 1/2 months old now. We're working on obedience training. We exercise him 3 days a week on long walks (about 30 minutes each). Sure, we play with him, etc, but I want to add some more activity for him, and would like to find a local dog park. I live in the 40/42 area. Are there any nearby? (I define nearby as far as Raleigh/Cary area). Thx, Jan
Cute puppy! (I'm assuming your avatar is the puppy - :? I found an off-leash park in Raleigh http://www.millbrook-dog-park.com/joomla/index.php And there is always Lake Benson Park in Garner that is so big you can let your dog off-leash to play fetch with or whatever, also there is a nice, long trail around the park and down by the water that you can walk you dog on.
Clemmons State Park (in Clayton) is a great place to walk your dog. They have really nice trails and restrooms for you too! LOL!
Yes, this is a great place to walk your dog as well. I was trying to think of the name of it when I posted before. Have taken my dog to both parks.
thanks! Yes, that's him in the pic. Where is Clemmons state park? I'm in the DR Wells area. The park in Raleigh looks great. It will be a few more weeks before we can go, as he needs to get his last shots.
Off Shotwell Rd to Old Garner Rd (if my memory is correct) Clemens State Park will be on your right. 2411 Old Garner Rd www.mapquest.com
Dog park http://www.oakwooddogpark.com/ This park is new and it a little closer them Millbrook. I've never been to this one, but Millbrook is great! http://www.millbrook-dog-park.com/joomla/index.php Please look over the rules so you know the do and don't. Make sure your puppy is up date on shots and heatworm med's. We wouldn't want the cutie to get anything. As a twice lab owner I will tell you to walk walk and walk that Lab. The more you tire them out , the less they get in too. I got to big boys and if I don't walk them they let me know how unhappy they are! Also get a Kong chew toy! It good if you need some time to rest! They can chew to their blue!
Thanks for all the tips. I got him a KONG toy, and he hates it. I even put peanut butter in it. What I need now is a person who knows how to train him with my son. This dog listens to me, my husband and my 4 yr old daughter...but thinks my 6 yr old son is his litter mate and all they do is play-bite and run around. I know it's training the person and not the dog that's 99% of the battle! aauuggh...but he's so darn cute (my son and my dog lol)
I've emailed Cesar, and have yet to get a response (but I didn't really expect one). I watch his show a lot, too, and get some good tips. We went for a long walk today, and Fred's totally pooped out. Wanna hear something funny - when we named him Fred, it was because of the show I Love Lucy. He was a boy dog, so I could not name him Lucy, and I didn't want to name him Desi, so we went with Fred. Now, my MIL lives in Cary. It never dawned on me what her dog's name is ... Ginger. So, now when they come to Clayton, they bring their dog... and Fred and Ginger play together !
