i want to know why it happened. My thoughts and prayer to his friends and family. 20? and still in high school? WEst Johnston showed its juniors and seniors a VERY GRAPHIC movie (or power point) on the dangers of prom night. Including drinking, drugging and driving. It was put on by the Johnston County Sheriffs Department. Kiddo said they made an announcement that those with weak stomachs should leave. EVeryone thought it was BS. BUT is was reall pics of real accidents and they were very graphic. Some kids boys thought lightly of it until they were set straight by the deputy that was there. THe kids were surprised at th damage that can and has been caused by two vehicles hitting each other. And vehicles hitting othr people and things. EVery pic was in Johnston County and they named the roads not the people. THey got permission to use all the pics from the families because no one they showed survived. Gross? Maybe... but if it got one kid to think it is not worth it to be a showboat driver and take unnessary risks then it was worth it. Not all who died were at fault. But kids need to understand that every time they are in a car or truck - it can turn dangerous in a nanosecond. (i should know too)
For those parents of Juniors and Seniors that are renting a limo, please check the inside of the limo, the front and the trunk to make sure there is no alcohol stashed anywhere. I heard plenty of news where the limo driver was under the influence. Can never be too careful on prom night.
Commendations to the JCSO for getting involved. I have heard for proms being conducted as a kinda lock in experience, with ZERO alcohol...and at midnight, the teachers and supporters served a buffet breakfast...and then kids went home. SAFELY!
i just had to sign a paper saying my daughter could leave Prom before 12 am and yeah it is like a lock in kind of thing.
Terrible accident...but it really has nothing to do with prom night directly. Yes, they were going to pick up their tuxedos, but it was just lack of thought behind the wheel from my understanding. We all do things like that occasionally, and most times we live and learn. Unfortuately for this student, he was unable to realize his mistake in time. It could have happened on his way to school, work or church. I would hate for anyone to associate prom night shenanigans with this young man's accident if his character does not reflect that kind of behavior.
Sad it had to happen, but if you do something stupid like run a stop sign, you are asking for trouble sometimes
