When will we ever learn that we can not change mother nature. At some point this country will have to stop changing mother nature, whether it be the Mississippi River or bean renourishment on NC beaches. We have made mistakes, let us learn from them and let natural ebb and flow run their course.
I wonder when they wilo start tearing down the dikes along the rivers of the US. Would they have to remove the locks as well, I wonder? No more channel dredging or harbor dredging either?
How true. Every time we build a levee to prevent flooding in one location, we increase flooding downstream. And whenever we build a seawall to prevent beach erosion, we cause more erosion in another location. NOLA has the misfortune to be located downstream from probably hundreds of levees, and the cumulative effect has been devastating.
Ken, if you correct your children for something, do you let them get away with saying little Johnny down the street does it too? The fact that others have also done wrong does not make one less culpable. Certainly others owe apologies as well, but that does not mean our government should not apologize.
Private schools are great. No rif raf at all!! It puts education first. Social status second. You of all people should agree that EQUAL opportuntiy is there for all in need. Not just the blacks in N.O. You can't hug every tree with a broken branch. Sometimes you have to cut the broken limb so the tree can grow stronger. Don't forget it was G.Bush's fault to for the levy breaking!! LOL !! What a joke!!
Any exactly what does it change that our government apologizes to anybody. Should we also apologize to Samuel Mudd's relatives? It was over a hundred years ago. Let it rest!
example: my son gets cracked in the head with a toy from my toddler...she stands there with no emotion and no understanding to the effects, he lies there in bloody terror wallowing in his "head trauma". I remove her from the room and then go up to him and ask if he is alright and say I am sorry about his bump, hug him, wipe his tears. Did I cause the pain? Did I strike him? No, but my sympathy and reassurement does help him feel better. Will be have a bump 3 days later, yes, but a little smaller, is he feeling better and realizing it will be ok? Yes, not because my toddler said anything to him necessarily but because I helped ease the situation and did what is right and he knows there is someone out there that understands. It is more or less the same type thing only on a greater scale. Oh, and naturally will he be angry afterward? Yes, does he eventually forgive her? Yes.
So that means after the apology we can do away with welfare and other social programs because they should feel better? They should get jobs, be responsible parents, and stop mooching off of society? Thank God!!! Apologise already!!
I'm sorry bad analogy. You are talking current tense versus over 100 years ago. Will your son's great granchild really care about the bump on his head suffered. Who said life is fair and people have to understand. The government admitted slavery was bad when they ended it. Nobody that is alive was ever a "slave" in the context we are talking about it. An apology does nothing in this case.
I think it is the perfect analogy, you are confusing the literal with the figurative. Would a bump bother my son's grandchildren, no. Would a grandchild be upset because his grandfather was beaten naked in the street with chains and hung and left to rot on a tree? uh, yes. Like I said it is a MUCH greater scale we are talking about here.
no nev, the hispanics use it too! Please Server, I had my turn in the medicaid line and it is humiliating and humbling but I am glad it was there when it was otherwise my first born at one month old would not have had medical attention for his checkups and such. Don't generalize it tends to make some look prejudice.
I don't get it and refuse to give any type of apology to anyone. I refuse to vote for anyone who voted to give an apology in our legislature. So if you are in power in Raleigh, and you voted to give an apology. You lost my vote. Republican or Democrat. I am sure I am not alonel. I can think of 10 other things that should have priority over this.
if you don't "get it" then are you really even able to offer a constructive opinion? The people who truly believe in an apology in office probably wouldn't want the vote anyway if it is not what you believe and I don't think you are alone either.
if you feel slighted to that comment then that is your own feeling you have to deal with, I don't direct my comments but to the group as a whole.
