So, I recently moved into the area and am looking for some decent individuals to grab a few beers with every now and then. I work from home and when the weekend rolls around, I get antsy to get out.

I'm pretty much trying to avoid going to a bar by myself. Not to start any battle of words, but I'm not into country, blues, or jazz music and I'm only good for one Skynard song every two weeks. Oh, I'm a dude, 32, married, not looking for any 'action on the side', can carry a decent conversation, etc. My place of choice would be that irish bar on the 70. I tried Magoo's but I can't take all the smoke.

    So there you have it.

Welcome to the area! There are a few on here that frequent McKinley's, (the Irish bar on 70), as well as a couple other places. I'm sure you would be welcome to join in when we all get together sometime. We also have '4042' lunches every now and then, perhaps that is something your wife would be interested in. :)

There's really no good place to hang out in the area. Many times I will go to Locked and Loaded in Garner. CDH isn't too bad and the Clubhouse is ok.

Welcome to the area! La Cocina, in the shopping center next to Magoo's, has a bar there. They have a nice group of folks who hang out at the bar after work. The bartendar carries on a good conversation as well. The smoke is minimal in there. I vote for the Flipside in downtown Clayton too, because it is smoke free.

Welcome to the area. Wish I could recommend a spot, but every place I go is smoke filled and plays a lot of country music. Sorry.

Welcome to the area! Like MP said we have 4042 lunches sometimes. Maybe you and your wife can come out to meet some of us (the cool people  ) We go to the Draft House, Clubhouse and ODS, that's pretty much it! You'll find us in one of those places.

We hang out at McKinleys.. just look for Killi or Bree to be playing the NTN Trivia, and we're there.

Flipside is nice because it's smoke-free.

who all is going? I need a drink. Between math and career development in school, work, moving to the new house we bought, and family, I am exhausted.

Well you haven't ventured into politics, abortion, religion or property rights yet, so I don't see anyone here throwing anything at you, yet!
