    We bought a washing machine.

    In a nutshell:

We dropped $900 for a Whirlpool Cabrio at Lowe's in January. (please don't hit me  ) that doesn't work. (Fault Code 51)

From searching the net we've found out that:

    a. no one knows what a F51 means

    b. Whirlpool contracts out repairs to A&E Factory services, Whirlpool takes no responsibility (worming way out of class action lawsuit)

    c. A&E Factory Services has extremely bad reviews - replaces parts that aren't broken - never fixes squat - hasn't fixed mine

D- Lowe's will let me exchange my washer for any washer I choose. God bless John at Lowes!

We had a $400 Maytag before and got 11 years out of it.

So my question is what washer do you have and would you recommend it?

John is great - he saved me when my less than a year old microwave went kaput right before i had all the inlaws coming in for a visit. The company wanted me to schedule a repairman, blah blah blah, i called and talked to John at Lowe's and he replaced it with no problem, even offered to have someone install it for me but they couldn't get there for a couple of days so DH came to my rescue too:-D

We just purchased a Bosch 100 Nexxt from Lowe's to replace the 16 year old Kenmores. So far, so good! It's incredibly quiet and does very large loads. It was rated well by Consumer Reports last year.

I can't speak for the newer models, but its hard to beat the old Maytags. Ours hasn't worn out yet and my folks have one and it hasn't either. Their Maytag is 13 years old. Our's is 8 years old.

Whew...nearly a grand for a washing machine complete with fault codes. I do hope you can get it fixed, though.

Had a Maytag repair man warn us off the purchase of a Maytag since the buyout, they no longer use the double belts on the washers. Our Maytag lasted somewhere between 8 and 9 years before the transmission went.

I just bought a Maytag and love it ! (as much as anyone would like to do laundry).............. I looked at the Whirlpool and didn't like it as much.

Our Maytag is at least 30 years old.........
She does 2+ loads every day. It's loud and big & I LOVE IT! It even looks "vintage". I blow it a kiss and give it a patt of thanks that it is still working after all these years. Yes it will soon be moving to our new house! No new crapie front loader for me!

Good Luck! They really do not make 'em like that anymore!

Hught...I've heard that the Maytags aren't what they used to be, as well. Hopefully, sheblondy yours will last just like any other Maytag from the past. I wonder how much it is to "restore" a older Maytag as opposed to buying new?

When Our transmission went, the repairman basically said "Don't Ask".

Chaulk another one up to "they just don't build 'em like the used to." Does America build any household items for itself anymore?

We have a Whirlpool Duet - washer and dryer - it's 5 years old. We've only had one problem with the washer when it was 6 months old - we called the 800# - they knew who we were from our phone number - a repair person came out the next day (on time) replaced a circuit board and told me to have a great day! No bill! ((I did tip him though - habit of mine) We purchased an extended warranty when our original ran out - it was reasonable as I remember.

    I love this pair!

Sorry the model you have has been a lemon.

Thanks for all the replies y'all! :)

It came down to a Maytag or a GE. We went with the GE.

I hear they bring good things to life.

Have had my Kenmore washer and dryer for 10 years. The only problem we've had is when something small got stuck and jammed the washer tub. We do a lot of laundry here and the Kenmore is holding up great!

    Washing Machine

We bought a Whirlpool Washing Machine from Lowes 2 years ago and within 3 months it started giving us trouble, sounded like a tractor trailer changing gears, they told us it wasn't level, got out the level and it was of course. Then it stop running at all, got the Whirlpool guy out to repair it and I told him I thought it was the transmission and after working on it for a number of hours, totally dismantling it, said it was the transmission, replaced it but up until two months ago was still sounding like a Mack truck going thru the gears and then would not totally spin all the water out so we went back to Lowes and purchased a new Maytag, hopefully it is better. Our older washing machine was a Whirlpool and it lasted 25 years until the seals started leaking. Lets face it folks, they just don't build em like they use to. Its just like the throw away watches, battery goes dead then you throw it away and replace it.
