Can I, where the hell have these people been? You go to almost any airport in the country and if you have an "Airport Gas Station" you will pay more. Any of you folks travel to Detroit, there is that BP station on the airport property that used to consistently sell gas at $1 over the price you would get a mile or two away. These folks typically operate on the law of supply and demand and if you get business folks who need to drop a rental off at the airport folks are willing to pay way over the market costs (also consider that there lease rates typically are much higher). By the way once the Rental Car companies were relocated this gas stations prices dropped, still expensive but can no longer get this price. Also if you rent cars you usually get three options: 1) Return it full, I do this when I can (80% of the time) 2) Pay in advance, usually you get the gas at the predominant rate in the area. The problem is that unless you return the vehicle empty you are loosing money. I do this if I figure I will use at least 1/2 tank and am going to be tight on time (15% of the time) 3) Just return it and they will fill it, typically you will pay between $5 and $8 a gallon. I use this if I figure I will use less than 2 gallons and will be tight on time (5% of the time)
Hugh you are not alone on traveling to and fro. But I haven't seen gas that high any where. Never flew to detroit. Flew to Chicago though. I don't remember seeing it that high. I am not doubting you. I am basing it on what I have seen. If it is 4.09 now at that staion then it will be over 5.00 come mid summer.
As I mentioned that old Detroit BP station isn’t that bad any more, but here is the one I typically fill up at that is right next to my drop off. If that Chevron can really get some idiot to spend $4 a gallon, more power to them.. Did you read the article you posted, or only the headlines? It sounds like a single instance of price gouging. No other gas in the area was even close to the $4 this place was charging. Also apparently Chevron didn't care for their business practices either and terminated their dealings with the station (prior to the report). So, are you going to condemn all oil companies based on one example of a thief?

You wouldn't want them to waste money on maintenance, would you? After all, the shareholders expect a certain return on their investment. Not to mention, CEO's don't come cheap.
