With all the pet food recalls lately, do you think there could be a problem with human food as well? According to the New York Times, the Chinese have been adding melamine to pet food for years, as a cheap way to make it test higher in protein than it really is. Melamine is high in nitrogen, which tests the same as protein but has no nutritional value for animals. And the cheating is not limited to pet food: So how do we know our food is safe? Should we send USDA food inspectors to China? We can check labels and try not to buy products imported from China, but how do we know whether products made in the US use ingredients from China? Or am I just being an alarmist?
I think the FDA rules out many things that we should be concerned about. They seem to ignore that what an animal eats is most likely passed on to us when we eat the animal.
No I don't think you are necessarily being an alarmist, I think you do need to do a comparative risk analysis. I think as far as food goes I have more to worry about from the Alfredo Sauce than from Chinese food products. I might look a little closer at anything bought from China, but I probably will not stop buying products from China (I think you will find that the recalled food does not say anything about China). As far as food inspectors, it would be nice if the check the factories in the United States were done a little bit more frequently, for instance the Seafood HACCP process requires a FDA inspection at least once per year, to me that is a little scary. But how much do we want to pay in taxes for safety which can never be guaranteed.
HEY you all are missing the point - I have taken birth control pills...so.. how come only the EELS get to be long and slim??!!!! (see first post) Now there a darn injustice.
Although I stand by my original statement, for the most part, I am rethinking the buying of products from China. Between the poison found in the toothpaste in Latin America and today's execution of the equivalent of he FDA for accepting bribes allowing a number of Chinese to die, I will pass on their products.
The greater problem is not their products, but also the components of those products, such as the wheat gluten, which would not indicate a country of origin. I have had some significant association with the Chinese manufacturing and there are a few clear concepts that appear. They converted to pure capitalism quickly in the concept of buyer beware. The whole country is rife with pirated products, including medicines. The tens of thousands of dogs culled in the rabies scares included those which had been vaccinated because those very few thousand were just as likely to have been vaccinated with a fake vaccine than not. They copy anything and everything possible and they do it almost as good as the original. One of the key problems with production is quality control. Those who have had parts and products manufactured in China have either had to set up their own quality control oversight there or do it as the products are imported. It is almost like a game to see what can be slipped though as a completed product. It will look fantastic and be very cost effective to produce but may not work at all without having every fitting, screw, and nut checked or tightened.

... Yes... they're trying. clearly it is a vast conspiracy that only the worldnetdaily could see. I truly thank them from the bottom of my heart for their insight, and further thank God for putting a group of people so observant on the earth with us. I only hope the tin foil hats he equipped them with are strong enough to block out the new super Russian mind beams. Let us pray. =(
