I grew up in Wisconsin and I remember a few cases where stores were required to raise prices. But this seems counterintuitive. We should invite the proprietors to open a station at 4042. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070509/ap_on_fe_st/odd_cheap_gas_2
Need any better proof of the strangle hold the oil industry has on us? Just look at the fine Chevron got for paying a kickback to Saddam to buy his oil during the "oil for food" program in the mid 90's. They have agreed to pay a $30 million fine. That's 1/7 of 1% of their bottom line. That's like the average earning American buying a cup of coffee. So what we're saying is it's OK that you gave funds to a warring faction that was probably used for weapons that killed our soldiers, so we want you to go buy some coffee as a penalty. Instead we let them influence fixed pricing on gas, lobby to the hilt and literally control our very movement. I'd encourage those seniors & card holders to file a suit against the state. Even if it's frivolous, just to get national attention.
That's totally bizarre, I thought Wisconsin was a relatively progressive state, what is the purpose of that law? I don't get it!
Ummm, I don't see "mass destruction" anywhere in ddrdan's post. Was the Baathist army not armed? What was the source of the opposition our troops faced in the initial stages of the operation? Where did those weapons come from? Pat
What opposition? Our boys rolled right on through then the blundering in Washington led them to disband the Iraq Army.
That's exactly what I said in here when the war started. I related it to telling a drug dealer on Monday that we will be over on Friday to bust him. He had the weapons; we just idiotically gave him the option to sell them off. Chevron paid the money in the mid 90's during Saddams reign. If you consider he didn't segregate his money when making purchases, then, all the weapons in Iraq when we entered the war were partially funded by Chevron and others who played the game. Correct? Just more players in the game taking a piece of that big oil money stupidity. The participants in the game are the ones who get caught. Yes, the state law dictates the action their taking. But you can't expect me to believe that lobbying and political funding didn't have a role in the implementation of a law like that. They have a law that says you can't sell gas cheaper than a certain price but gouging is totally acceptable? Ken, please tell me you don't see a problem with that, or, the possibility that the influence behind the law is to protect oil company profits?? Ken, other than our entry into a war, I have never faulted Bush for the actions of our nation. Bubba never belonged in that chair. You can't fit a square peg in a round hole. I fault him for being an unqualified idiot. I fault him for selling out to big business. I fault him for not getting help with his public speaking abilities, which makes America look stupid. He proved that fact, again, with Queen Elizabeth yesterday. Why does every speaking event with him have to become a joke to cover up his errors? I always addressed him with the etiquette due the office, but in the past few years, he's turned the office into a redneck joke with a price tag on the hat. Our action as a nation takes the acceptance of every single one of us. Or, the complacency of many to sit back and ignore the actions of others. I blame the latter. Especially so when a law restricts our ability to assist the elderly and youth groups.
Laws such as this, and in other states...(without checking, think North Carolina still has one that you can't sell gas at a loss)...are designed to protect the mom-and-pop operations, at least that is what the lobbyists for those laws claim. If Exxon, Chevron, or any of the big oil companies wanted, they could put competitors out of business pretty quickly by selling gas for one cent over the gallon, and the independents would have to fold up real quick. So goes the thinking anyway. How long could Wal-Mart sell gas at a loss and survive, and then soon set the prices to what they wanted, when others went out of business?
Your kidding ..... right Ken???? The man is a putz. I did have a grammar error, but then, I don't run the nation rated as the largest world power either.
