Okay, last night the dishwasher was closed but not "latched." I went to put in the last dishes and start it, and saw the mouse running around the bottom of the dishwasher. I slammed it shut (while I let out a scream), and DH came running. He decided we should drown the mouse, so he started it. This morning...no dead mouse inside the dishwasher. DH put the settings on extra hot and antibacterial and reran the load. Now the water will not drain so we assume the mouse tried to escape through the drain hole. Will Drano work to unclog a mouse in the drain?
it might, but i'm thinking not right away....ew pull out the bottom rack. most of the time there's a plastic removable screen cup kinda thing to trap big pieces of food from going down and clogging the drain....if he's not in it, he might be under it
I am sooooooo sorry for your "problem" but I am dying laughing right now. This is EXACTLY the kind of thing that happens to me...but usually ONLY when my husband is out of town. Good luck!!!!!
Well, DH and I took the dishwasher apart, cleaned the drain, and (We think) disposed of the remaining pieces of the mouse...it seems we have a small disposal attached under the dishwasher. We are running it AGAIN to see if that cleared out the clog...thank goodness for the shop vac that can get the water out of the bottom. It does sound like a bad sitcom plot, doesn't it?
Oh my gosh, a few years ago that happened to me! Only I didn't know it was in there until AFTER I started unloading the dishes and noticed the dead (& extremely disgusting!) rodent body at the bottom of the dishwasher. Needless to say, I screamed, then got my oldest son to remove the disgusting thing, put the few dishes I had already taken out back in, and ran the washer two more times - on the pots and pans cycle! Not much will make you more paranoid than finding a drowned mouse in the dishwasher!!
Many years ago, while living in Durham, we also found a mouse in our dishwasher. My husband caught it, and let it go in the back yard. It came back (or one of its relatives came back) and DH put him in an aquarium and we kept him. "Moshe" the mouse lived for another 6 years in the aquarium and loved his little running wheel, peanut butter and cheese! Hope your dishwasher is working now!
you could put the cat in there with him and Poof! no need for harsh chemicals.... just kidding - relax
TGTMID! (Thank God The Mouse Is Dead) We think... The dishwasher is working fine now. I guess if it happens again, I will let DH go with his instinct to try and kill the mouse without running the dishwasher. I wouldn't let him open it for fear of the mouse getting away. That's when drowning it seemed to be a good idea. (The best ideas of mouse and men.....?) Well, Ready, we've washed the dishes twice on the antibacterial/extra hot water cycle. And, Pepper, we don't have a cat, and I doubt the Beagle would have been much help in the dishwasher. I did briefly wonder what would happen. Definitely something to have a video camera ready if we ever try that!
