I know it doesn't sound right but that salary is probably about right for a CEO with a pretty good sized budget. I realize most of think that nobody should make more than the President of the United States of America but these positions usually don't have the power or perks that that little EGO trip has.

The above is for New York, a number of organizations would be happy to sell you a more appropriate chart, but I wasn't going to purchase it for you.

No where under the definition of a "non-profit organization" does it say that the employees have to live like paupers. They can, and frequently do, pay large salaries. To put this into perspective, United Way's president Brian Gallagher was paid $432709 in 2003. The CEO of the American Red Cross was paid 468,599 in 2003. I guess we should stop supporting these organizations because their executives make a lot of money.

MCNC has invested 30 Million helping rural areas gain access to the internet and manage to operate without siphoning money from the state every year.

I understand that, but NC tax dollars started the place. Their primary mission is to foster technology in NC and operate a high speed network for research. Don't see where that kind of salary is warranted in this case. Again I hope no tax dollars are ever used again.

...that ain't exactly on par with flippin' burgers. Sounds like a heavy duty job to me and would command a salary commensurate with the job description.
