Does anyone know if "Currins Nursery" (off Old Stage in Willow Springs) is open to the public?. I have tried calling and e-mailed and no reply. Also I am looking for hybrid fast growing poplars and leland cypress...anyone had luck finding either around here?..Thanks!!

Try Corbetts nursery in Zebulon. But, I personnally wouldn't plant them this time of year unless you can afford to water (deep soaking) them at least every other day throughout the summer, fall would be a better time or earlier spring. Hope you can find what your looking for though, good luck.

Those trees are pretty commone for around here, so you shouldn't have any problem finding them.

Best time to plant trees is in the fall/early winter, though. As openminded says, you'll need lots of water for deep soaking this time of the year.

    Good luck

Check your pm's and the advice on when to plant given is 100% correct but a lot of people do still do it and as long as they are vigilante in the watering, the trees do fine.

another big 10-4 on the watering.......... big time watering.... all summer long

    and

Leland Cypress can get eaten alive by "Bag Worms". The trees are no fun to spray and the bag worms are very hard bugs to kill.

Yes bagworms... ugh! Had I known about those nasty things, I wouldn't have bothered putting 41 Lelands in my yard. The good part is we've only had to spray (with Malathion -sp?) once. :)

I got mine from Broadwell's off of Old Stage for $3 each and planted them in October of '97 (while preggers!) Most of them are probably about 25 feet tall now.

WOW - i got mine from Broadwell's 4 years ago (before i changed jobs;)) and they were $14 a piece in a 3gallon pot (i think that was the size) - talk about inflation:shock: i use that systemic treatment every fall to keep away the bagworms.

Because of the time of year, you might be able to get a good deal on the trees. I bought some leland cypress several years ago about this time of year, kept them in the original containers, placed in a very shady area and watered like the devil was on my heels all summer long, planted in the fall and they turned out great. I normally wouldn't have bought this time of year but was offered an outstanding deal because the lady at the farmers market that had the trees said that she didn't want to have to deal with them throughout the summer months, season for planting them was over. I'd still wait until the fall, reports are for a very, very dry and hot summer, like that's something new around here.
