Does anyone know where families can go that need assistance with light bills, rent, food, etc. Don't know where else to ask about this. Any info will be helpful.

Check with some of the local churches, they have some resources available. Hocutt in Clayton comes to mind.

Check with some of the local churches in the area. They might have a special fund setup for needy families etc. I know my home church did, or at least they can direct you to county/area organizations. Hope for the best.

Have you been to Clayton Area Ministries? 704 E. Main Street, Clayton. 553-5654. I believe they are open Monday-Wednesday-Friday from 1:00-3:00 PM. I know they can help with the food and may be able to direct you to other sources of assistance. Also if you are a member of a local church, contact your pastor.

If you are in the Cleveland area, check with Basics Needs Ministry - i know they can help with food, clothes, etc and if they can't help in the other ways, Ron will probably know where to send you. Good luck.

I think we are all trying to give the benefit of the doubt here that this is a one-time request for help. If not, that's on her.

This is a first time request here. I am quite sure we could all use some help. My daughter is down on her luck right now and she has 2 kids and she is possibly going to be evicted. I have helped her over the last couple of months but it is getting harder and harder. Social Services has said they have no funds this month. Thanks for all your help. I will contact the churches and see what they can do. We are willing to do about anything at this point to make things work, but work is slow for her and she gets no help from the daddy of her children so it has been hard. He can't be found. Anyway, Thanks for the help.

No, maybe I just took it the wrong way, but in light of his other posts, I'm still leaning towards smartie pants, although I can think of another term. But it might get me banned.

    Amma,
I am so sorry your daughter is struggling. I am pretty sure I can help her lower her grocery bills for the long term and possibly provide some assistance with food in the short term. In what area does she live?

Feel free to call me. There are a number of people on this board who can vouch for the legitimacy of my offer and the methods I use to lower grocery bills.

welfare pays light bills if they are about to be shut off. Not that I knew that. It was back in the day when I was raising my son by myself at 19 yrs old.

I also had a job payed babysitting and everything by myself. I got help at first(through the state) but I figured out how to cut the budget. It was a hard road and you may have to let her learn it. I know that sounds horrible but my parents didnt help me a lot and I learned real quick. You may be hurting her more by giving her money. Hope this makes sense. I mean no harm by this.

It can be done. Could you babysit so she could work a job at nights or something?

there is a food pantry on old fairground road.
    Clothes at basic ministry.
Get her name on a waiting list with the state for babysitting, they will assist with that.
    Could she qualify for AFDC?
I am sure she qualifies for medical.

She could run an add on 4042 offering to do odd jobs?
