I agree God's child, just like I agreed with Ken.... And it's not surprising to see and hear all negativity....pull up any given thread in this discussion room, and you'll see lots of negative responses (and whining) about every subject. Every thread/topic, someone chimes in with negativity. Don't get me wrong, there are some people on here who have upbeat topics (JenS, ReadytoC, harleygirl, tit4tat, just to name a few) who keep things on the lighter side, but something negative gets said, about everything. So I am not surprised at the initial negative, kneejerk response. I always try to make lemonade out of lemons, no matter what the situation. I think its hard enough in this life with out all the belly-aching....I prefer to laugh!!
What is Adolf's positives? I personally don't think much of JF but maybe if his evils as well as the good things he has done (someone should share those because I can't think of any) are shared we can save folks like Pat Robertson before it is to late.
Well i am sure you can do a search of his history and find many things but the things i remember as a child growing up was he started the home for unwed mothers and in those days there was no where for unwed moms to go to get an education and have their child in safety. Also he ran a rehabilitation center for Alcoholics. As a person, he was very nice and genuine in person and never missed a chance to stop and speak and ask how everyone was. Even when i was working on the lounge side of a nice restaurant he made a point of coming into the lounge to say hello and inquire about my parents. These things i remember are from the days before the politics came into play for him but they are what i remember from growing up in good ole Lynchburg.
This is what I found upon your suggestion of researching the Good Reverend.... In 2006, Falwell marked the 50th anniversary of his church and spoke out on stem cell research, saying he sympathized with people with medical problems, but that any medical research must pass a three-part test: "Is it ethically correct? Is it biblically correct? Is it morally correct?" (obviously he never had anyone in his family die of cancer, a long slow painful death) With Falwell's high profile came frequent criticism, even from fellow ministers. The Rev. Billy Graham once rebuked him for political sermonizing on "non-moral issues." Days after September 11, 2001, Falwell essentially blamed feminists, gays, lesbians and liberal groups for bringing on the terrorist attacks. In 1999, he told a evangelical conference that the Antichrist was a male Jew who was probably already alive. Falwell later apologized for the remark but not for holding the belief. A month later, his National Liberty Journal warned parents that Tinky Winky, a purple, purse-toting character on television's "Teletubbies" show, was a gay role model and morally damaging to children I can keep doing research if I need to......
yeah, I remember when my first mother and father in law, deacons in his church who worked at Blue ridge Stone and Craddock-Terry for minimum wage both became unemployed, shorty got sick and they couldn't make their tithes so Jerry wouldn't allow them to be deacons any longer. He was a real prince.
i don't get you ktbailey - you say above that you are against negativity in the threads and yet you continue to do so:?
I guess Matt will have to find someone else to speak at the grand opening of the new CCC. He was there for the original ribbon cutting.
Ok i give up. My whole point was that a man has died (a man that i didn't agree with everything he did) but a man who has a family and many people who did love and respect him. i just don't think people are so coldhearted that they can't save the bashing for another time but maybe my DH is right, he said i have too much faith in the natural goodness in people.
I apologize if I sounded kinda harsh, and your DH is right, don't give up on the natural goodness in people.....his 'natural goodness' just doesn't seem quite as apparent....nothing personnal against you. I just didn't find any good things about him while doing my research......that's all.
I also remember when old Jerry opened Lynchburg "Christian" Academy right after the desegregation of the public schools and did not allow blacks.... yup... a real prince...
I'll give Rev. Falwell credit for one thing: Many of the things he said in public, I used to hear other "christians" say within the four walls of the Baptist church I used to go to. At least he didn't hide what he believed, he was upfront with it, no matter how right or wrong he might be.
Now, if anyone out there can do a better job than anyone that is in the media like him, step up to the plate and DO something. Be a part of a solution instead of the problem. It's easy for all of us to say how it "should be" and how "awful" someone is here in little old 4042 land. Why is it people always want to look at the negative in someone. Even if they were negative to a point, there is ALWAYS a positive side and that is all that should be remembered. Isn't that the way WE would want it for ourselves???? I think so..........[/QUOTE] JF was almost always negative about someone. And because of his position he had the media to spew his hateful messages across the country and around the world. I'm glad that someone thinks he has a positive side.
No matter what your opinion of Jerry is, i do hope everyone will keep his family and loved ones in their prayers tonight.
It is interesting and revealing that Larry Flynt looks like a statesman compared to some others commenting on the death.
It's so reassuring to me that I am surrounded by such perfect people who have never spoken a word of hate or negativity like that mean old bully Dr. Falwell. Shame on him!
I'm sorry, but uhhh... No. nope... i've never spoken words of hate like "that mean old bully Dr. Falwell". I can honestly make the claim that i have NEVER suggested that 9/11 was an attack from God to punish us for our lack of legal cohesion to the doctrine of my church. I stand down from this thread now, but... yeah. the high and mighty "Oh like you don't hate large amounts of people, and try to blame national tragedies on them" mini-speech forced a response. I'm sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, no matter how i feel about what he stood for. Peace. (both as a casual closing, and a wish.)
Anti-Gay Kansas Church Members Plan to Attend Falwell Funeral Anti-Gay Kansas Church Members Plan to Attend Falwell Funeral - I thought they were going to do a eulogy, that is not the case. I wouldn't wish these S.O.B.'s on anybody and I feel bad that his family will have to deal with them. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,273313,00.html
