Everyone seems to forget that this Wal-mart will be the closest one for the people to the west of the 4042 area. Another thing to remember is many people do not like to go to the Wal-mart in Smithfield because it has become a spanish Wal-mart so they will be attracted to the convenient location of the new Wal-mart at the interchange.

What you will find is when the new Lowes Food and Wal-Mart is complete the area between will be a complete clusterxxxx. Heck, since there will be an interchange for the new 70 bypass at Government Road onto 42 you might as well consider the entire area up to there.

Think about where people live (not just you), where they work and what is between. The figures that EngNCSU has stated are probably way low considering the location.

FWIW, that is called a Single Point Urban Interchange or SPUI for short ;) . They are basically a costly answer.

You all crack me up. You know that half of you (or someone in your family) is going to be beating down the doors trying to get a job there. The other half will be beating down the doors to get in and shop. Before the one in Clayton opened they had something like 600 people applying for jobs there. Wal-Mart is what it is, but you can't argue with the prices and the amount of stock they have. If you can afford to pay MORE for the same thing that I buy at Wal-Mart then my hat's off to you. Apparently you have alot more moeny than i do and don't care about keeping it. I, on the other hand, have to watch every penny. If I can get a garden hose at the 40/42 Wal-Mart for $5.00, I'm sure not going over to Lowes and buy the same thing for $7.00 and I'm damn sure not driving to Clayton or Garner to a "regular" hardware store and buy the same hose for $9.00.

Yes, traffic is going to suck for a while. Maybe it will suck for a long while. I just don't know. But what I do know is that this area will FINALLY have a shoe store, a clothing store, and a sporting goods store.

And btw, whatever happened to the boobie bar that was supposed to be moving into the area? Maybe they'll put that in the Wal-Mart between the optometrist and the portrait studio. Now that's what I'd call a Super Center!

If I'm not mistaken, Walmart will have to contribute in a very large way in developing ($$$$$) the roads (stoplights etc.)for the impact in this area. This is usually the responsibility of the developing company not the county. In fact, that is the reason the developer for the shopping center on the corner of 42/Cornwallis Rd. pulled out. J. Co. said that they would not contribute for road access and improvement, without this provision by the developer J. Co. would not approve the shopping center. How many of you have gone to a W-M anywhere and there was not road developement to ease the flow of traffic etc.? I've been all over the U.S. and have seen a ton of W-M, Walgreens, SAM's clubs and all of them are developed in a way that makes for ease of entering and exiting, stoplights etc. Let's face it the traffic flow might actually get better, because as it stands Friday evenings are HELL at that end of 42/40 with all of the beach traffic. ;)

If they did that then the traffic would be at a stand still to get in to the parking lot. I will smile at ya'll as I ride my bike by you to the store.

Story in Friday's Herald said if everything is approved ... construction would begin Spring 2008 ... Wal-Mart should open spring 2009.

For those opposed <I'm looking forward to shopping closer to home> ... "County Commissioners will have final say on the request. The board is planning to hold a public hearing and discuss the matter at their July 2 meeting."
