My DH and I were discussing about what's to do next Sunday and Monday, the holiday weekend. Beach? Mountain? Anything best places to go for the family of 3? Let's hear about your plan and maybe that'll give us some ideas.
I have to work. But isn't it funny how no ones has even mentioned or considered doing what the holiday is about, attending a memorial service for those who have died for us. For years I've said the schools should send all the kids to school and do a day long quick review of the Civil War, WW1 and WW2, Korean and Vietnam Wars. Then Memorial Day would be a learning experience instead of just another exuse to get a paid day off. Get the veterans that are left from as many of the wars to help tell stories about their experiences.
Before we moved here, the kids and I used to attend a Memorial Day parade honoring our veterans and soilders. It's always an emotional time for me, as we have a few veterans in our family, one of which passed away from cancer that was caused by Agent Orange in Vietnam.
We are going to the lake... FINALLY!!! :-D Haven't been since Feb. and I would be there right now if I didn't have to work. *cough cough* I feel sick...the dogs ate my computer... can I go now?
gosh, it must be contagious, I think I am coming down with something too.....we better hurry up and get close to a large body of water, before we contaminate all of our co-workers....
May 28 Memorial Day Observance A military encampment representing three centuries of military tradition will be set up on the Capitol grounds. A wreath-laying ceremony in honor of those North Carolinians who served during times of war will take place at the Veterans Monument. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Memorial Day Observance
I worked for a company in Charlotte, we did not get off for Memorial Day because the boss said it was a "Yankee holiday".
I know someone that works for Stock Building Supply and they never get Memorial Day off, it's just wrong if you ask me. It is nice to have a day to honor those who have served our country.
It truly is nice to have a special day set aside to honor all who have served our country. Unfortunately, most people (not all--but a vast majority) think of it as just another vacation day from work, school, or whatever. We should all take time to stop and remember all veterans and say a prayer for those in service to our country now. I, for one, will be flying my flag at home and at the beach proudly and as always, will remind my children what this "vacation from school" day is all about. God bless all our veterans (living and those who have passed on) and all our servicemen and women!
After I discussed this with my DH, it looks like we'll be staying home and spend time at our HOA pool. Gas price is getting too expensive. Wished we could go to either the beach or the lake.
