I was wondering if anyone else uses A-1 video. I have tried Netflix and Blockbuster, but the prices and convenience of A-1 works best for my family. My question is why do they have to smoke. I have asked when I go there and nobody seems to have an answer. The smoke was so bad this weekend that I got a headache from it. Does anyone else ever complain about the smoke. Their prices are better for recent release movies and children movies, but sometimes I wonder if it is really worth it for the smoke.

Well, I wouldn't go there. For a business that will have children inside the building, it is totally uncalled for to allow smoking inside, IMO. Smoking in a bar is one thing, but inside a video rental business... I don't get it. :?

Have you tried Premier's (McGee's Crossroads shopping center)?

No I haven't tried Premiere. Maybe I will have to try that instead. I use A-1 since I stay in the 4042 area. Maybe I will drive down to exit 319.

When we first moved here, 6 years ago, I went to A-1 and wanted to sign up for membership. The required ALL kinds of info. including several LOCAL references. Well I had just moved into the area and did not have local references. Rather than treating me like potential revenu and regular customer for their business ... I was treated like a potential thief. That was the first and last time I visited that business.

Try Premiere. I don't go there often but noticed on my last visit there have been some positive changes since a disgruntled customer posted concerns here on 4042.

Oh Yeah, head down that way! You'll like the Food Lion better, too!! Did you get your Carolina Clipper in the mail the other day? There are some BOGO coupons for Premieres in it!! They also have punch cards (to earn free movies), and a 99 cent rack. Nice people, bright and clean, and smoke free!

We have used A-1 for a couple of yrs now, I haven't really noticed the smoke, but I don't go frequently. I just hate having a deadline for returning, if somethings comes up...you don't always have time to watch it before its due.

We just recently started using Netflicks and we love it....granted I have the cheapest plan, 2 movies for 4.99 a month. We used to do a lot of pay-per-view and Netflicks was a cheaper option for us. 2 movies a month is plenty, especially now that its summer, we don't spend as much time in the evenings in front of the tv anyway!

Unfortunately you CAN stil smoke in public places. I will personally be glad when it is abolished from all restaurants, so my kids don't have to subjected to it.

(I can say that cuz I used to be a smoker....not trying to ensue a riot)

Believe it or not I wasn't trying to start a riot either lol I just thought you couldn't smoke in public anymore, and I didn't realise it was a private owned business and not a chain.I have never been there but from the post I read if its that bad I wouldn't go.But ya know the saying to each his own.

I agree with that.I would also like for them to make it a law for people who drive down the road with their music going boom boom and their cars rattleing to be sentenced to life without parole!!!!

It always smells like smoke in there. I can't stand it. You expect that from a bar but not a video store!

I used to have a membership there. They royally ticked me off.

I'd rented two movies, and my step-father suddenly died. I forgot about those danged movies. I never heard from them and a few weeks later I found the movies. I felt awful, so I wrote a little note about how we'd had a death in the family, that I'd forgotten, and if they wanted me to pay for the movies, I would, and put them in the drop box.

I never heard anything, so I figured they waived the late fees due to the circumstances. I went in a while later to rent movies and they told me I owed over $600 in late fees!!

I offered again to pay for the movies themselves, and tried to explain the situation and they really didn't care. I told them to shove thier $600 and I've never been back.

As a former smoker, I still think that having a smoking and nonsmoking section in a restaurant is fine. I also think they should have a nonsmoker, nonchildren section as well. I think my hubby and I have a sign on us that says PLEASE sit us beside screaming children. :) I know I'm probably going to get flamed, but it seems like children are not being taught how to act in public anymore. I know growing up we had the one verbal warning to settle down, then we went outside for a "talk" if it continued. We were very well behaved kids in the restaurant!

No flaming from me, i totally agree. If my children had behaved in public the way i see some kids behaving - they would have had a really quick trip to the bathroom with me or Dad. i have grandkids too and i make sure they behave in public when with me - #1 rule is "don't embarrass Nana in public" and they know it well:lol:
