SNL was almost born in the car. Her brothers (including DH) joke that she had panty hose on her head. Gotta give FIL credit; he did get MIL to hospital in a snow/sleet storm. He tells a hoot of a story about the drive; sliding sideways through some huge intersection on the way (this was in Bethesda MD/edge of DC in 1965!) :lol:
I think I would be renting one of those apartments next door to the hospital for the ninth month of my next baby!! Nay, she would probably have the baby on the walk over to the birthing center. Do you get a discount on the doctor bill that way? (we almost had number 2 in the car, but number 3 gave us 2 hours?)
#1 was born when I stood up to get out of the wheelchair at the hospital....45 minute easy totally natural labor. With #2 and #3 they induced me so we would not have the baby on I40 on our way from Johnston County. No easy labors there. 14 and 12 hours long.....thought I was going to die. Pitocin is from H***. With #3 I walked in the door asking for my epidural. I love my kids dearly but am soooooooooooooooooo glad I never have to do that again.

I've posted before that my sis had a midwife and had her DD at home, but that is not my cup of tea! Epidural was the way to go with an induced labor! Pitocin is evil! J/K of course, it's a necessary evil sometimes.
I had two of my older children at home. (that was in 1974 and 1976) Had such a horrific experience with the first delivery at a hospital I swore I'd never deliver in one again. #2 was born at home in Lombard, Illinois. The doctor came to our house with a mobile van that looked like a mini hospital. Thank goodness we didn't need anything he had in it. He wrote the book for EMT's and policemen about emergency deliveries so I felt comfortable with him delivering my baby at home. #3 was born at home in Wichita, KS. Had a much harder time finding a Dr. that would deliver at home but finally found a little old country Dr. who came with nothing but his black bag and he lived 2 hours away. He did get there in time. But I lived right behind a wonderful hospital. We figured if he didn't make it in time, then we'd go to the hospital. Now numbers 4 & 5 were both born in Raleigh--one at Rex and one at Wake. I was 41 & 42 when they were born so I wasn't taking any chances with them. Must say tho, all in all, the home deliveries were much easier and relaxed. I know it's not for everyone, but for me it was the best choice. I never had any medication for any of my deliveries. Had Pitocin with the last one and thought sure I was dying but held out! LOL! Just glad those days are long over for me. I'll stick to watching grandkids being born!
I had my first baby pretty quick and 2 weeks early. My second the doc said he'd enduce me at 39 weeks if I made it that far. At 38 weeks I went for a regular checkup and they told me I was around 3-4cm and buldging. They made me check into Rex to have the baby so that I wouldn't have an I40 baby and now I have two kids born on the same day (but 3 years apart). We're scared to even think about what we'd do if there was a 3rd.
I had a planned homebirth, but I did it with a midwife and an RN (who was in training to be a midwife) here with me. I would NEVER try that freebirthing stuff... not by choice anyway.
Birth, the closes to death experience any woman will ever have. Unless you count the husband's cooking.
