I was disappointed after I visited the Clayton library in downtown area. It was so small and not many books that we're looking for. Is there any other libraries that you liked? Johnston and Wake counties are fine with me.
The only one I've ever been to is the one in Smithfield. They have a reading program for kids in the summer, and we enjoyed the few times we went.
I like the Johnston County main library in Smithfield. (On Market St - business 70 - next door to the Ava Gardner museum. Park in the back.) It has a large children's area, quiet rooms upstairs, a small computer room, and lots of recorded books. If the drive is too much (but I suggest you visit at least once), you can go online and request books to be sent to the Clayton library, so you don't have to go to Smithfield. They arrive weekly, late Wed or Thurs. Here is the link: http://www.pljcs.org/polaris/Search/default.aspx?ctx=1.1033.0.0.1 When I lived in Raleigh, I was very disappointed with the libraries. (After all, this is the state capital!) Granted, I only visited 3 of them - and before Cameron village was remodeled. But I stopped going after a few trips. Maybe they are better now.
I have been disappointed in the libraries here too. It's nice that you can request the books you want online and pick them up. Also, if they don't have a book you want let them know and they'll get it for you.
I am not picking on you Krattie, but making a general comment regarding libraries. I agree they are key and vital to any progressive community, unfortuantely not everyone is willing to pay for it. Usually when a government needs to tighten its belt the library is one of the first pieces to be cut. A positive for the Clayton Library they have continued to expand it over the years.
