    Folks,
have gone 70 to 58...hate the Goldsboro traffic. Heard from some that 40 souht and then go to Jax is quicker. Suggestions? What rd off I40 to Jax. 24? Seems like it goes thru some small towns and will slow one down.

well... have you seen the traffic on 40? go to WRAL if you are going today and look at the traffic!! oh my!!

I was told 70 was horrible too!!! So either way you will have that problem... the jacksonville way is not too bad though!! :)

24 has been updated and is actually a good route to take.

Aside from holiday traffic... I take 40 to beyond the Warsaw exit. YOu are going to get off on the Magnolia exit, turn left (you'll go by the BP that got robbed and started the chase the other day) and that'll take you to 24. It's 4 lane from 40 to 58 at Cape Carteret.

Wherever everyone's going, be safe! Watch out around you for others whackos (unless you are one! , then watch out for yourself). Take plenty of stops, take your time, and keep hydrated when you're out on the beach! As Garrison Keillor once said, we count you all as you leave, we expect you to come back the same number.

On a side note, I saw the WRAL story about traffic headed to the beach this weekend.... thank goodness I'm headed west!

There's really only two decent ways to go. My vote would be to go through Duplin County and through Beaulaville to Jacksonville. Much simpler and four lanes all the way.

put on ruby slippers... click heels together three times while saying there's no place like the beach....probably won't work but what have you got to lose?

    Folks..
    here is the breakdown...

40 to exit 373 (Magnolia) was good. NC 903 to 24 was good. 24 thru beualaville to jax,m to swansboro though cape carteret is deplorable. We've found it faster to take 70 to havelock, and cut the back rd to 24...about 5 miles longer...45 minute drive time less. IF they;d only get a bypass around Goldsboro and Havelock....

I like the 70 to 58 way just because ounce you get on 58 you can haul tail.. seems like it takes for ever but that long small road its easy to see a cop down the road, of course throught the town is slow but then you can kick it back up again after that..

    But not like it matters.

I've never understood the reasoning behind the cloverleaf in Goldsboro. In my opinion, the road should make a curve to the left at the Highway Patrol station with steady flow traffic instead of having to get single-file to go around the ramp. Now that 117 Bypass flows over 70 prior to the cloverleaf, local 117 Bus traffic could taper to one lane and flow into 70, passing over 70 Bus that goes into town in front of the bakery.

I think that could help a lot with traffic problems. Right now, they are building a big shopping center just west of town on 70 which will no doubt slow traffic even more. I also think they have about two lights too many just before the cloverleaf.

I think this short-term solution could be in place a lot quicker than a 20 mile bypass.
