JohnstonCounty Mandatory Water Conservation (For Immediate Release 5/29/07) Water demand in the JohnstonCounty water system continues at record high levels. Although a mandatory water conservation order was in place over Memorial Day weekend, system demand did not decrease. Utilities operating data and staff observations conclude that the higher demand is due to lawn, turf, and ornamental vegetation irrigation. Residential and commercial customers of the County system as well as customers of systems supplied by the County system are requested to limit irrigation activities, as follow: - No irrigation on Mondays. - Irrigation on Tuesdays through Sundays on an odd date – even date basis in accordance with odd – even house or lot street number. (For example, owner of house no. 113 could irrigate on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc. provided the date does not fall on a Monday.) - Customers are urged to irrigate sparingly. Systems supplied by the County include the Towns of Clayton, Kenly, Four Oaks, and Princeton, and private systems owned by AquaN.C. and Carolina Water Service. The mandatory water conservation order will remain in place until further notice, and probably until the occurrence of significant rainfall in the area.
For those of you who do not believe that the meatballs who ran the stump dump and the scrap yard should not be heavily fined...here's your mandatory water restrictions.
Let's not forget the Archer Lodge Volunter Fire Dept. that used the county's water to fill up the local farmers irragation ponds without approval from the county officials. Looks like a little bit of back pocket money exchanged.
Ummm.. the stump dump was forced to dig them back up, which started the fire... And wasn't the scrap yard fire arson? Why should the owners pay fines for that?
So, I'm not sure I understand. My address is technically Benson, are we still included in the restriction, or is it just simply all of Johnston County? I'm just a little slow today.
Do you get a water bill every month? Or do you have a well? The bill would be from Johnston County Public Utilities, or from one of the companies listed at the end of the announcement. If you have a well, you are not included in the restriction, but you still might want to be careful not to waste water.
I was trying to follow the logic here as well, and realized that there wasn't any. As for possibly fining these people, that would be like going back and saying that since the price of gas has gone up, we are gonna fine you since you used up 15 extra gallons last month pulling your bass boat to the lake. Craig
Ah, but ya can't put out a fire with that gas you put in your boat. The fire dept. used that water with the knowledge that we were in a drought situation. Check out the amount that was reported that they used, bug your eyes out, think about all of the homes and businesses that share the same water source that they used for those irrigation ponds and then tell the person who's house burns down, sorry but there wasn't enough water left from filling the ponds up to put out a house fire with. Your comparing apples and oranges when you compare gas to water.
Funny but I wasn't aware that at the time of the Stump Dump fire that we were in a drought situation. We may have been in a deficit at the time but it wasn't drought conditions. What has created this is the continued lack of rain since that time, without the curtailment of continued water usage. As an example there is a new gas stationed being built right down the road from me. Been under construction for ages now, but they have some of the nicest green grass you have ever seen due to the fact they have a irrigation system that runs every other day even though the place isn't open. Crap like that and lack of rain fall is what is aidding in the shortage. Not the fact that 3 months ago The Stump Dump was on fire and that Acher's Lodge continuiously put water on it. Now if you would follow your screen name and reread this whole thread you will see that both Just One Guy and myself were responding to Harvey's comments. Incidentally as a side note you do know that several local area FD's and EMS units do have boats that are part of their organizational needs. So while they may not be able to put out my burning house with the gas in the boat, they can sure as hell comb the bottom of the Neuse River when I'm down there drunk and fall in while fishing at night by the bonfire. Craig
Craig, not sure what your problem is, but leave out your hostility. The Archer Lodge Fire Dept. has just very recently, within the last week used that water. I never referenced any comments about the stump dump fire etc.. My comment was to put things back on the thread about JoCo. H2O restriction, and this fire dept. was aware of the restrictions at the time they filled up those irrigation ponds last week. I never mentioned anything about them not having boats or gas for their boats etc.. Sorry if what I wrote taken wrong, no need to be nasty, one reason why I tend to just read the comments and rarely post comments. Most everything I wrote was basically "think about this folks" or "what if this happened". Anyway, have a great evening.
openminded, In your response that it would be like comparing apples to oranges the gas and water situation, I have this to respond. As I stated in my previous post I was responding in kind to the comments made by one poster of the name Harvey, whom suggested that since the Stump Dump and the scrap yard had caught fire that they should be fined because of the excessive use of water in those situations. As stated in my comment post about Harvey's comment I said that I failed to see the logic involved. Then tried to apply the logic used in those situations using a current relationship that we can all relate to (the rising cost). Sorry that you couldn't relate or see what I was doing by using that as an example. I'm also sorry that you didn't either realize or understand that the comment was made in response to Harvey's logic. Craig
Craig, Thanks for making your comment clearer for me, also sorry for not understanding you. I think most of us would agree that the water used to put out the stump fire was in the line of duty, whereas the filling up of irrigation ponds in Archer's Lodge was not in the line of duty for the fire department to make that call, they should've checked with the County before doing this, chances are they would have received a big "NO" and therefore might be why they did it anyways. Once again, thanks for making explaining things to me. Ya know, people get so many different meanings out of a written comment, not always the same and not always what the writer intended. Thanks
Ahhh HAA! You're the one Bill LuMaye was talking about who said she wouldn't stop watering!
HG! You should see DH's elephant ears coming up...all my plants look beautiful and have plenty of water.... dh is a good plant waterer! BTW.. don't fuss at me.. I'm on my own well water.
I wonder how likely this will be enforced... I mean, we have a hispanic family down the street who love to burn sans permit and violating all the rules stipulated by a permit....
Oh i am so jealous - three of mine came up great but since i couldn't take care of them last fall, the biggest one didn't come back at all:-(
