Yes, I'll admit that I said I felt a little sorry for the huge hog that the 11 year old shot and killed, but some people have gone completely overboard with their compassion for a HOG. Read the negative comments some people have left for an 11 year old KID. Unbelievable! http://www.monsterpig.com/
The child killed a once in a lifetime pig. Why are there negative comments? We live in a sick world where people think it is acceptable to write those comments to an 11 year old. Guess we should stop teaching our children the circle of life. When you are not at the top of the food chain you may get shot! End of Story! No mushy feelings needed for the pig, just respect!
Makes me wonder what these weirdos think about cavemen hunting and killing the mastadons. Had they had their way, we would all be eating roots and rocks. LOL!
On Good Morning America the boy stated that he originally shot the hog with his hunting rifle, tracked it for several miles with the help of his dad and other hunters, having to use the handgun to finish the kill. My husband is a hunter and when asked if this was the norm he said yes, for reasons such as putting the animal out of misery, some states do not allow you to fire a high powered rifle unless you are in a tree stand aiming down, high powered rifle is not what you want to use up close, he says the list goes on and on etc.. All hunters in hunting large game will carry a handgun for these reasons.
I wonder if the people criticizing him are all vegetarians? Of course there's no connection between picking up a few pounds of country style ribs in the supermarket and somebody killing a hog, right? All that meat in the store just comes that way, it was never alive.
By the way, bet ya didn't know that we have an over population of wild pigs in JoCo. Have a neighbor that teaches at State Vet. school and is involved with genetic research, pigs, cows etc., says we have massive amount of rogue pigs in JoCo. and if I'm not mistaken your allowed to hunt them.
As with most wild game there is a season for boar. http://www.ncwildlife.org/pg04_HuntingTrapping/2007-08 Season Dates.pdf And this clip from the above page. WILD BOAR SEASONS Daily limit 1; Possession limit 1; Season limit 2 In the following counties: Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Jackson, Macon, Swain Oct. 15 – Nov. 17 Dec. 10 – Jan. 1 In the other 94 counties of the state, feral hogs are not considered to be wild boars, and the Commission does not regulate them. Craig
Well that would depend on wheither or not the Wildlife Comission determines what you are hunting is classified as feral or not. Craig
