I am looking for : 1.) A place that will turn 8mm/16mm movies into DVD 2.) A good framing place for the million pictures I need to get framed! TIA
Carolina Custom Video, 919-319-6888 ask for Karen. She did good by the ones she did for me. No "consultation/setup" charge, 15cents a foot for 8mm, 23cents a foot for 16mm without sound, 30cents a foot for 16mm w/sound. I'm wanting to say it was 15 bucks for the first disc, 10 for each additional. A disk holds 30-40 minutes. A 3inch reel is 50', 5inches is 200', 7inches is 400'.
My MIL takes all her pics and needlepoint to a place in the Farmer's Market in Raleigh. I've been the receipient of some of these items, and they do a great job.
Recommendations for picture framing There is a good framer that is in the shopping strip behind Smithfield BBQ at 40/42. I think the name of it is "Get it Framed" or something like that, it is located in the same shop as the Lundy's Photography. He has matted & framed several prints and antique maps for us and did a great job.
I can give a BIG Thumbs up to Elaine w/ Old Farm House (Or something like that) Framing at 3919 Raleigh Road. #934-5072. She is an artist/craftsman type of person & has a frame shop upstairs of her garage. Her home is the historic Walter Moore 1820's 2 story white house near Sonny Road that faces the old road. AND She works the election/polls - she may have handed you your ballot at the last 2 elections!
Frame Shop I second the Frame Shop at the Farmers Market. I've had several things done there from a picture to a diploma and they have done a GREAT job. They are not outrageously priced like some other places are.
I saw that but their probably just talking about 8mm and VHS-C camcorder videos from the 80's and 90's. The 8mm and 16mm movies she's talking about are a different beast.... reel to reel... Now, if Monica can show me a way to do it without buying the $2k-5k setup, I'd be interested, but I'm not holding my breath.
Kidd's Framing at the NC State Flea Market does a great job and they will frame it while you wait. They are in the row of restaurants, shops over by the old grandstand. They have been in business for years (I used to buy stuff from her back in the 80's!)
Yes, it can be a beast. Nothing like vintage reels that have been sitting around for 50 years. Cleaning, splicing, editing, etc...dirt, dust, warping... I enjoy the challenge and the nostalgia of it all. lol I really like that old "click clack" sound of a projector.
I didn't realize you did those too... don't I feel like a horses patute... Carolina Video already had mine done before you helped me on the 8mm camcorder stuff. I finally got that stuff wrapped up. I was having problems at first with audio not matching video after 10 minutes or so, turns out I was dropping video frames like crazy. I ended up creating another logon on my computer that didn't start so many programs and rebooting after capturing each tape.... (memory low!).
I told ya. Those frame drops can be a doozy. Good idea about logging on as another name. I never thought of that. I use a program that shuts down most processes and it helps. I have since avoided the computer totally when transferring tapes/camcorder videos by a separate recorder. I don't lose quality in the process either. I mainly use the computer for the custom edits now. Color correction, cuts, white balance and such...I spend way too much time staring at screens all day...ehhemmm :lol: .
