Why do these people from Mexico think we don't mean business when we say you must have license to drive?!?! http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/1482171/ Teen Responsible for Fatal Crash Was Unlicensed Posted: Today at 6:26 p.m. Updated: Today at 10:24 p.m. Apex — In a split second, 16-year-old Arturo Arguijo's decision on an Apex highway changed his life and that of another family. Arguijo faces charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving without a license. He is in the Wake County Jail under a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in August.
Just food for thought. I saw the television report and read the article. It never said what country the 16 year old was from. If he is not from the United States there are many other nations beside Mexico that are possibilities.
You are right, I apologize. I read the article again, and it is the DEAD victim that has been confirmed to be from Mexico.
WOW!!!! You actually mean that PEOPLE....HUMAN BEINGS...from Mexico can DIE also!!!! Who would have thunk...
It does not matter where they are from. This idiot had no license and was driving illegally and he killed someone while doing it. This has become a standard for most hispanics lately. I can understand why she immediately put the Mexican tag on him. Latinos/Hispanics (whatever lable you want to put on them, nationality-wise) are not only from Mexico. Heck, I work for a Hispanic but his family is from the Dominican Republic and he grew up in The Bronx.
You forgot to add the fact that he too has no legal drivers license to the case for the generalization used ....
A few months back, my husband was parked at the gas station over by 210/40 and was struck by a car. Apparently the workers inside called 911. The car that hit my husband ...of course were mexicans and the car did not belong to him and he was without a lic. Of course he got several tickets for various violations but I think the law should be a lil stricter with people who drives without a lic regardless of being illegal/legal.
This mornings 540 tractor trailer crash.... http://wral.com/traffic/story/1483020/ "Roberto Lopez Garcia" - I may be jumping the gun but I'd be willing to bet here we go again...
Why should they get a license? Afterall, we've shown them that laws don't matter here in the US, if you break one...you'll be rewarded with a job, govt assistance, and union protection.
Exactly what I was thinking. If they are arrested, we let them out and then when they don't show up for court we just turn our heads.
"We, We,We....They, They, They." There's your trouble. Keep thinking like that and nothing is ever going to get solved. Don't tell me there aren't plenty of "us" gringos driving around out there without licenses, like all the ones who call trying to find bargain DWI classes because they just can't believe how expensive they are. And most of them are likely to be drunk when they're driving. We're all God's children, no matter what the skin color or the nationality.
But as Hilter and the Roosevelt administration showed us, it is so much easier to form a solid support when you can readily identify whatever group you wish to demonize for the real and suspected slights. As long as it is the Jew's fault you were late for work you can feel better about yourself. Maybe we should round up everyone who does not look European and put them into a camp while we sort them out?
"Authorities said alcohol was not a factor in the accident." Since it was a beer truck, I found this to be funny..
Or they are sent back to their country with the opportunity to come back here illegally, again, and start over with a new identity. Wow.....what a punishment...
Given the source, that could be a compliment I suppose knowing history does make it difficult to ignore racism or bigotry even when one tries to mask it .... ever so poorly.
WRAL has a video up on their web site from the current Headline Saturday program. David Crabtree is the host; he has John Drescher, the managing editor of the N&O; Sheriff Donnie Harrison; and Tony Asion from La Pueblo discussing the problems of illegal aliens and DUI. It's about 23 minutes long, but worth the watch. Highlights: Latinos have DUI's at about 3 times the rate of the population at large. (Note: that is not the same as 3 times as many total). But that has been decreasing in recent years. (I would not have known that from reading the news.) Donnie Harrison talks about the difficulties of working with ICE to identify people who are arrested. His department takes fingerprints and sends them to the SBI, and the information goes from there to the FBI, but ICE says you need to use a different computer to connect to their database. What's up with that? Tony Asion talks about the reasons for the problem (not excuses, just contributing factors). He talks about educational programs that he thinks are making a difference. He also points out that if a white guy driving drunk kills somebody, the headlines don't scream "White male DUI" (my paraphrase). Toward the end, Donnie Harrison is careful to point out that many Hispanics are hard-working, law-abiding people.
Why should they? No one ever sees the following headlines either: "Brown male DUI." So why report the skin color of a white male getting a DUI? What we DO see is "The driver was an illegal immigrant." And we see that because the illegal status of the driver is relevant to US citizens because US citizens are sick and tired of the increase in DUI fatalities and related motor vehicle issues such as accidents involving uninsured motorists and unlicensed motorists involving illegals. Those issues affect other citizens. When tomatoes are on sale they are listed in a grocery store flyer because it's something folks want and need to know. Food sale flyers don't ever say: "Tomatoes are not on sale today." And headlines don't read "US Citizen DUI" either.
So it's unremarkable if US citizens drive while intoxicated? Accidents involving uninsured motorists, unlicensed drivers, and intoxicated drivers affect other citizens, whether the driver is here legally or not, and regardless of the race or natural origin of the driver.
