You're correct, we were living together, I got pregnant, we're still not married. We have however been together for well over 6 years, and are engaged, but currently are more concerned with doing what we want with our house, my going back to school and letting our son do stuff than we are with having a HUGE marriage ceremony to impress others. We don't need to spend 10k on a wedding so others know we love each other. It shows daily for us. Slam me all you want, we bought our OWN house at the ages of 21 and 25, and both work for everything we have. I have one degree, working on another currently. Last time I checked thats more than some of the "older, wiser" ones in their 40's can accomplish.

Justice of the peace at the courthouse with marriage license is pretty cheap.

Justice of the Peace works, you don't need to spend $10,000. No one is slamming you, just pointing out that you don't know EVERYTHING yet, no one does. Your defensiveness speaks volumns.

When I need opinions on when and where to get married, I'll ask! We both agree that we're happy and we're waiting until we can do it the way we want to do it. While I don't want anything expensive, I do want something nice for my family and friends...unless you're going to give me the money, the nicest thing I can say to you is shut it!

well a suggestion then. Don't come on a message board and state as a reason for not being married is money.

Nope, because I was in college and my DH and I were dirt poor when we got married. It will be 17 years this month and we went to Dillon and tied the knot!

    cmdknw06,
Though you are entitled to your opinion and I think we all respect you for it, I have to say your still WRONG about that club and all that goes on not causing any harm. My kids happen to know a lot of the kids in these pictures as well as the reputation the club has with all of these kids. There is more going on in the dark corners, bathrooms and the parking lot, use your imagination, don't have to go far. Many of these kids are dropped off by mom/dad and within a few minutes they leave with their friends that can drive. Mine have heard about sexual acts that happen in the parking lot, dark corners of the club etc.. To say that this does not promote sexual behavoir is just sticking your head in the sand. Have you even spoken with any teenagers that know about this club? Not sure exactly how old you are, don't really care, but the facts remain that way too many teenagers are having sexual relationships, thus the increase in teen pregnancy and sexually tranmitted diseases. As for your veiw on letting your child take just a "SIP", that's not what you wrote. Your choice on how to raise your child is exactly that, your choice. You will however change and swallowing many words/choices when he reaches 14,15 or 16. Famous quote "Never say never", always will come back to bite you in the butt.

Especially if you do own your house, raising a kid, have a full time job, going back to school to "further" your degree and your fiance races? Hmmm last time I checked that all takes money and maybe ya'll need to sort out your priorities use some of that money to get married and stop playing "house".

Can't wait to see the pics from this place.

"Christian values" and dance parties on Sunday nights.
I wonder, does anyone know if the lights are on or off while the kids are "dancing" in these places? :? The YouTube video of an underage dance club that I posted before shows strobe lights and lights off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEiDUw9vtng&mode=related&search=

No telling what is really going on in there if the lights are off.

It may not be the "date drug" but something is bound to happen. It always does.

I have done a LOT of growing since I was 23. The person I am today is certainly not the girl I was then, thank the Lord!! Food for thought....

You're talking about instilling values, trust and respect in your son. What does it teach him when his parents say they're in love, have been together for 6 years, but won't marry because selfishly they want to get all the material things under their belts as well as a wedding they cannot afford at the moment? It shows him that he can get a girl knocked up, doesn't have to claim the kid on the birth certificate if he doesn't feel like it, live with her until things fall out, and then walk away when he's bored with it all or fall "out of love". Hard, cold, unbiased facts.

I have a close friend who had a hard time even getting gas money. She and her loved one went to the J.O.P, scraped together the money for a marriage license and got hitched. Three years later they were much more stable, had an almost-3-year-old son, and had the wedding she wanted. Her family and friends supported their decision and both she and her loved one have their utmost respect. Their son is now 9 and is proud that they "did it right". They are committed to each other, knowing that it's much harder to walk away from a marriage than to walk away from "live-in lovers".

By the way, you're not the only one who is a mother with multiple degrees. There are plenty of parents on here (mom and dad both) who have multiple degrees at young ages. There are a fair share of single parents who hold degrees and, at least, one full-time job. There are also those who have a Life Degree...and are invaluable sources of information for the rest of us parents. I don't knock their wisdom, you'd do well not to either.
