Our mailbox was one of many that got plowed last night.... I hear (but have not looked for myself) that it was about 20-30 on Cornwallis and Shiloh. I have also heard that there are quite a few street signs missing. I hope somebody saw something so they can catch the little twirps!!!!
I did not realize it snowed, must have melted by the time I got up! Seriously I did not see anything, hope you find out who did it.
Yeah I saw your road on the way to take my son to daycare...They also got our road. ( Mt. Pleasant Rd. ) Busy bees last night, huh?
Sure it wasn't DOT? Heaven help whomever hits my mailbox... they'll be needing a radiator at the least if they hit it with a vehicle...
Wow, I'm very sorry to hear what happen. I'm a mail carrier and I've seen many of our customers lost their mailboxes because of vandalisms going on in their street. I"m familiar with Cornwallis and Shiloh area. It's hard to tell who did it, unfortunately. It would be nice if there's a camera around and see who did it.
If it's DOT, they should notify the homeowner immediately. If that happened, they will pay for the damages. You might want to call and check with them to see if they are going to work on the particular road and find out if they're going to cover the damage properties.
Someone put Roman candles in mine a few weeks ago, didn't do anything but blow the door open. Just how bored to you have to be??
Worse, one of our mail carrier found a suspicious package inside one of the customer's mailbox. The carrier called and reported it to the supervisor. As it turned out to be a small bomb. Luckily, no one is hurt.
Ours was not hit FOR ONCE!!! Mailbox Baseball repair has been a regular thing for us over the last 3 years. One mail box lasted only 48 hrs. Wonderful! DH was soo-ooo happy about that.
You guys make me glad mine is attached to my house. It's right there beside the front door.
This has been going on for quite a while. While you are driving, look around. It is everywhere. I think people should get a steel mailbox like I had to.A little pricey but it hasnt been touched again. Brick mailboxes too!
We got a steel one after ours was knocked down. We lost count of the number of times ours has been knocked down! DH even mounted it on a solid steel post, but that didn't stop someone from knocking the box off the post! It is now welded to the steel post, so if it goes down again, I believe whoever hits it will have some serious damage to their car. Don't think ours is from vandals (although it could be). We only had one person stop after hitting ours. She was a very nice lady who skidded into ours during an ice storm. She payed to have it replaced. I thought that was nice of her and understood why she hit it. What I don't understand is why people don't stop and offer to pay for it when they know they've hit it. We even thought of putting a camera on ours after it happened so many times! Maybe we should have!
Mine is 1/8" steel lag bolted to a 10' 6x6 post sitting 4' off the ground.... meaning there is 6' buried underground...
Interesting information on Hardened Mail boxes. Cost $150 to $300 a piece http://boingboing.net/maginotmailbox.html
Or try this: pointed rock, metals, or similar that will flatten the tires if run over it. Just place it around the mailbox. I've seen some people do that.
Just remember that a mailbox can be considered a hazard if it is too strongly built. If there are injuries due to an accidental impact the owner may be held liable.
