What are they doing on Cleveland School Road across from Allen RD. and going down to the DRWells Store on the side of the Batting Cage? Widening maybe, or pipes in the ground. , Or if we get lucky a Traffic light at McLemore? Does anyone know? Thanks

Great question...I'd love to know, too. I'd vote for a traffic light...you are taking your life in your hands trying to turn left off of McLemore at rush hour (I usually take the long way 'round and go up to DR Wells...it doesn't neccessarily save time, but a left turn there is much less risky)(and if I do get hit, I won't have to wait long for the rescue crew!)

I heard they planned to widden 1010 (CsR) on both sides by 10' thereby creating a center turn lane. Not sure how far the extra lane will run.

No word on the STOP light at the end of McLemore Rd.

    Anyone know more???

We are number 7 on the list for a stop light at Mclemore and cleveland school. I put in a request two years ago with the DOT in Wilson NC. I called back this year and a rep said we was 7 on the list. He did mention that it could turn into a turning lane there as well.

Just for your information...Secondary Road 1010 is also Cleveland Road...The name of the road does not become Cleveland School Road until you hit the Wake County line. I've lived in the 'Cleveland Community' for 33 years so I know this to be true. What is happening on McLemore Road is that the DOT is widening it for a turn lane...the turn lane might go all the way to where McLemore Road becomes Raleigh Road. Also, a stop light is in the near future for the end of McLemore Road. I know...I live on the corner -- the bad thing about the stop light is that the DOT will probably get my pine trees. YUCK!!

a turn lane down a road for a mile???? all the way to Raliegh road every thing makes sense except this.. why put a tuen lane down a regular road for a mile when really there is only two neighborhoods on Mclemore soon to be three in that mile. I dont kow maybe your right I just dont think it would make much sense. I also live on McLemore

And so when is all of this supposed to be completed and when do we get a traffic light at McLemore and 1010.? Hopefully soon, and not when school is back in session,, that could be a potential night mare each day....... Used to love this rural area but it is changing so much...

It's ranked 8 of 9 in division 4 and has been put on the back burner due to the frequency of accidents dropping off over the past year.

    sorry no signal for awhile...

at live down Allen, and called the regional traffic engineer in wilson about 5 mins ago.

I'm surprised to hear this. As I have seen many wrecks at this location not to mention lots of near misses and having been rear-ended there myself LOL! If people would actually stop at the stop sign instead of pausing, that would help too!

And if they add a turning lane (for people turning left from Clev rd onto Ral rd) that would help too.....that gets backed up alot too when someone is trying to turn there. That is where some have been rear-ended as well (speeding over the hill and not enough time to stop or realizing they need to stop).

So how many accidents do we need to have in order to get a stoplight? Dont let safe driving stop us from getting a stoplight. Come on people do your community a service and cause an accident or two to get our light! This is the most craziest thing I ever heard of. Got to have accidents in order to get a light to prevent them.

Well to make you feel a little better about this location...

    http://www.ncdot.org/doh/preconstruct/traffic/Safety/reports/HSIP/2005HSIP.pdf

on page 18, you'll find this location listed as the 221st worse intersection in North Carolina. This information is based on # of crashes, crash type, severity of the crash, and a few other factors... ...this location according to this information had 25 crashes during a 5 year time period between 2000 and 2005, and according to the regional traffic engineer the frequency of crashes has dropped off. (there is a possibilty in errors in this information as the dot only knows about crashes that get turned into the system, if the local law enforcement doesn't turn them in, then the NCDOT doesn't know about them)

Considering that a signal cost no less than 100,000 and they can add a turn lane for half that, which could likely eliminate the crashes, they are going to add the turn lane. I used to work in the group that produces this document, nifty little piece of information.

WOoohoo, there's your local "how the government works for you lesson..."

private entity probably could do the same traffic light for $10,000.
