The oil industry has decided to pull back on plans for future refineries because of Ethanol. My fears are that this failure to invest in refineries are going to bite us all in the dairyaire once this E85 fad crashes. In my opinion within 5 years we can point to at least $1 in additional cost per gallon, not to mention the havoc this is going to raise on our agriculture system. But may be this is the kick in the shorts we all need. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070617...fineries_10;_ylt=AvobZ_cnVU.thcfJlREhTqkE1vAI
If the engine is not designed for ethanol than 10% mixture you currently get is probably all you want. I believe the nonmetallic parts are attacked so special fittings are needed. If the engine is designed for E85 my guess is that it might actually have a longer life in that ethanol burns cooler (depends on additives).
I believe that the e85 attacts the non-metallic parts of the fuel system. As I understand it, it's about $100 in parts to do the conversion to e85. Again, I'm not sure.
