I have a friend who is looking a alarm system shes a senior and living on a fixed income I suggested brinks , thats what I use but she dosent want a contract or monthly payment.Any suggestions I can pass on Is there do it yourself kits you can buy that wouldn't be hard to install? She lives alone and her dog died she depended on her for security so any ideas ?
Thanks Ill look into it some more.Shes disabled and will not go live with anyone shes strong minded about that .I can't blame her for wanting to be on her own but she is scared to be alone at night and the way the world is now she needs something with her to give her peace of mind. I'm thinking of buying her a new dog but I'm gonna talk with her first and it will be a puppy for a while. She may not even want another one I don't no but she has very little family I think it be good for her.
A puppy may be to much for her to take care of since she is disabled. Might want to consider an older dog that is house trained and has some manners (doesn't jump, walks on a leash). That is of course if she wants another dog.
yeah thats what I was thinking an adult dog would be better she maynot want another. She has bad knees and has hurt her back she gets around pretty well though.
Angel - I have a system from X10 and it works great. I have also had other X10 systems in other houses with similar results. Their kits are reasonably priced and quite easy to install. Better yet, you can pretty much secure every door and window in your house for less than Brinks can do it. AND they have a company that will do monitoring month-to-month with pretty much no commitment. Here's the web site: www.x10.com They do have a lot of pop-ups on their site, but it's not difficult to navigate. Scott
I would also recommend ADT. We've had them for 2 years with absolutely no trouble. Local rep didn't try to upsell us on what we didn't need, and the price has stayed the same the whole time. Visit www.alarmconceptsinc.com. (Or just PM Harleygirl)
Well she wants something she dosen't have a contract with and no monthly payments but I will pass it on to her.ty
Thanks alot I should talk with her sometime today . I will pass the info to her then.I really appreciate all the help thanks.
How long have you had your system? The technology is made in several manufacturers products, X10 is usually known as the cheap china-made junk, prone to failure..
I've had mine since I bought the house two years ago. Before that I had my system for 5 years in another house. I'll give you the fact that their website is popup-laden and could have a more professional appearance, but I have found their products reliable and simple to install. Sensors are wireless and surface-mounted, but can be hidden rather easily. Mine don't stick out like sore thumbs. As for monitoring, you can have it whenever you want it. Say you go on a business trip and your family is alone. Call the number and tell them you want monitoring. Stop it when you get back. Good thing is that being wireless, you can purchase panic buttons. Buttons that you can hide in a drawer or mounted somewhere (like a bank sort of). When pushed, the system alarm sounds even if it wasn't armed to begin with. I hate to sound like a spokesman, but I have had good results with their stuff. Better yet, Brinks and ADT usually only give you protection around doors and charge out the wazoo for more sensors. Anyway, it may or may not be for everyone, but it works great for me. Hawk
I used to use X10 stuff for electrical customers, I swear I lost money on go-backs for that stuff. Switched to Leviton brand and they hold up better.... but glad to hear yours is working. The security system company "game" got me out of the industry years ago, it seemed the bigger the company, the more they were ripping off and lying to customers... huge fees for the priviledge of having a minimum wage flunky answer the panel's call. Oh, and 2way voice is a rippoff. Do you want that same flunky making the determination of weither you are being robbed by what they hear over a single microphone in the house? Unless they hear the robber, they won't dispatch.
