We have babies!

The killdeer eggs hatched yesterday afternoon. The babies were running around in minutes, they look just like miniatures of the parents - so cute! Here they are all cuddled up in the nest.

 

Oh, how cute!

 

They won't be there long after hatching! We only got to see ours for a day or 2!

Cool! I've never seen the chic's right after they hatch.

 

I thought the parents were going to have a stroke when I was taking that picture. They were yelling and screaming, running around acting like they were seriously injured, if I didn't know better I'd have thought they were half dead!

 

I have always found it facinating how a killdeer will look so wounded to try and lead you away.

 

Me, too. I don't know any other bird or animal that does that.

There are several species of birds which do this, some sparrows, plovers, and a variety of prairie birds come to mind.
