slowly but surely all our personal liberties will be eliminated in the name of safety and security. We will lie like sheep and allow it to happen. At the VERY bottom line however, it would never have happened, we would never have Count Dracula in our homes, if we hadn't invited him in, in this case by our apathy, cowardice and the fact that we can't behave like adults without supervision.
Bull-crap! It is all about the revenue. Look at the numbers of people ticketed for expired registration, inspection stickers, and insurance ...most of which are caused by people just forgetting. These aren't dangerous criminals on the loose. Couldn't they send reminders in the mail like they do with our taxes? How about tying the insurance, inspection, registration, and property tax all together in one bill? No, that would be too simple and they would lose revenue. Instead, lets put up a road block and stop everybody ...little old ladies going to church, families with sleeping kids coming home from the beach, etc ...and check their "papers". If they ignored minor violations and focused only on drunk driving, I'd say they may have a legitimate position, but as it stands now they are abusing their authority and undermining public trust.
Just so you know my husband stopped a "little old lady" two weeks ago for driving down the middle of the road, when she was pulled over she blew a .12 and had a gun in the glove box, not bad for a 79 yr old! So no its not an inconvience Id rather be stopped because the police are doing their job rather than having to be stopped because some freakin idiot was driving drunk and traffic is at a complete stand still so the police and scoop up body parts and car parts from the crash they caused!
GarnerGirl, I'm with you on the drunk driving. So why doesn't your husband just focus on drunk driving, drugs, concealed weapons, etc ...and give people a verbal warning about other things like expired documents?
Got to say, I don't see much difference in a road block and staking out a bar, profiling swerving drivers. So, should we stop all the security at the airports for free of depriving someone of their rights?
a law is a law.... maybe they are not fun, but insurance being paid on time is a responsibilty and having insurance is the law. Adults need to be responsible and just do what they are supposed to do... I was late this month with my inspection but it was only a month and it was my fault.... I forgot! Normally they give you at least a 30 day grace period before they ticket you anyway. But if I got a ticket then it would of been my fault and no I would not of been happy but I would be the one to blame!
You keep following the herd GG2000. Pretty soon you won't need the ole noggin anymore, as the gov will make all your decisions for you.
Think again. They don't even give you a 2 day grace period on your inspection. The fact is that most people WANT to take care of these things on time, but the stupid government bureaucracies make it as difficult as possible.
I think she meant the Far Cry from communism... as in DWI/Check points are a far cry.... not the private property deal???
They have given me a grace period in the past then... Like I said... it may suck but it is the law. We just have to do it! fight it if you may, but still obey the law until someone can change it.
I have mixed feelings about it, your driving on a public road...............so I kinda feel like your fair game. They aren't knocking on your door to give you a field sobriety test. But on the other hand................unless your weaving or something, where is the probable cause. Just my .02.
That's just it Dawn. It's OUR government, OUR roads, OUR money paying for all of it. We pay the politician's salaries yet they ignore what the people want. We need to stand up and say enough is enough. This country is going to hell in a hand basket, all while we're just doing it.
well I guess to each their own.... Life is so precious and I just want to stop drunk driving anyway possible. I just do not ever want to loose someone I love or care about again to a guy drunk and crosses a ditch to hit my friend on private parperty while on his bike. If you drink then do not drive! So many people (15 here) do not get that so the officials have to enforce the law with a check point.
I have no problem with random road blocks, couldn't really care less either way but Devilock brings up a very good topic. I wonder how law enforcement twirks things or how they would give reasoning for deliberately throwing the constitution and what it says about illegal search and seizure out the window??
Agree to a certain point! But until it can change then just obey the law or pay the ticket. I think our goverment gets WAY too much money from us and they spend it very carelessly, but I personally think it is ok for check points. That is all, and this is my opion and my thoughts! I say save a life any way you can!
Just to clarify, on the safety inspection. There used to be virtually no consequence to failing to have your vehicle inspected, but the law changed a couple of years ago and now there is no "grace period." I used to get my car inspected every 13 months, because the sticker would be dated for 1 year from the inspection date, but now they date it one year from when the previous sticker expired.
