Maybe the government should give us 10 more things to remember, and fine us when we forget those too. Or, they could send us one letter saying its time to renew your driver's license, and/or registration, and/or inspection, and/or pay your property taxes. That however requires too much common sense for government. There is no grace period. I got a full blown ticket for an inspection that was 2 days over. I had an appointment the next day for an oil change and inspection. The trooper didn't care. Sure it was dismissed ...after I took an entire morning off work to find parking in downtown Raleigh and stand in line at the Wake County court house. But fear not my fellow citizens. I have mended my ways and will never again endanger you on our public highways with a dangerous, uninspected vehicle. That's because right now they only violate the rights of a small percentage of people. Supposedly these checkpoints are only going to become more prevalent. And that's great! That's the best way to get them stopped forever.
and maybe we as adults could be more responsible also. When I was in college my professor told us one time we had a paper to do or something like that. If I did not do it then I got the "F" because I forgot. Not that he forgot to remind me.

That however requires too much common sense for government. Why should the government send you a reminder letter? Do you need them to hold your hand too? If you cant take the responsibility of making sure that your car is up to date on all inspections and that your license is current maybe you need to turn them in!
why is it that I let my car inspection lapse I get a ticket, but you come here illegally you get a free pass and get off with a ticket that they know you will not pay. It is all about the revenue.
Do you think the goverment should send out multiple reminders @ $0.41 a letter? Or should the one they send out be enough? I wish CP&L and Visa companies would give me a grace period... Agree with the immigrant part... but they should be deported the minute caught! And the others should pay their fine for the lapse sticker.
They don't seem to mind when it comes to collecting taxes from me. If they really wanted people to have their cars inspected, keep their insurance current, renew their registration on time, etc they could do the same in those cases, but they don't. They like the revenue stream from fining forgetful people. The courts and lawyers stay busy too.
No it is a revenue stream and the American public are too stupid to correct it. As long as they keep getting money to waste that is there concern.
AMEN! I dont get a reminder letter about my taxes I make it my responsibility to know when they are due!
And you know how you correct it?!?!?!?! By making it YOUR responsibility of getting your car inspected on time and putting your registration sticker on once you get it so you dont get fined!
But that really has nothing to do with paying your bills, fair or not fair. I just think we should pay our bills!
I agree with you on taking responsibility, but the way government goes about these things is beyond ridiculous. I'm pretty good about remembering these kinds of things, but I can't imagine the single mother with two jobs and 3 kids. I think there is more room for improvement in government than in the average citizen. Many of the police officers writing people tickets are some of the worst financial managers ever. How ironic. Maybe they should turn in their checkbooks and credit cards.
Ok I can agree and disagree, it just comes back to responsibility! Now as far as police officers being bad financial managers ever I do have to disagree on that one, well atleast with my husband. He keeps a better check book than anyone I know!
Yes, I am saying inspections pretty much it is about money especially when I pay $30 for the sticker.... the check point for drunks is about safety that is what I was meaning.... I think some things done at inspections are good (emmissions ) and making sure things work.... but NOT at $30!! Maybe $5.00!
would it not be safer to make alcohol illegal then there would be no drunk drivers. What point do you stop?
Then why are the majority of offences just minor violations? What not just target drunk drivers and no one else?
